Green Lantern- The critics are dead wrong

It's great. Just got back from seeing it at a drive-in theater (my first time in one, and let me tell you; it's a FAR better experience than an indoor theater), and I felt that it was a great movie. Sure, it's not on the same level as Dark Knight, but as far as superhero movies go, this was pretty darned good. It was well-paced, for the most part, the acting was good, and the characters were fun. Sure, it didn't go into the meaning of life, but since Green Lantern isn't a hero that's prevalent in mainstream consciousness, I think it would have been inappropriate to go into such things.

Therefore, this movie does what it needs to do: be somewhat mindless escapism.

The critics are wrong in this case.

As much as I like both Ryan Reynolds and superhero movies, I'm going to wait until I can watch it on Netflix.

I kind of want to see X-Men First Class too, but I'll wait for that one as well. And Thor. Hollywood might be a little overextended in superheroes at the moment.

Thor is in fact a very good movie, Penumbra. I watched it twice in movie rooms and enjoyed it immensely each time.

I loved it. Ryan Reynolds did an excellent job with the character, IMO.

I think the duty of any director in the making of a superhero flick is to take something silly and immature and turn it into something that us silly and immature comic book fans can watch without feeling too silly or immature.

Mission accomplished in this case.

Yes there's a fine line between mindless action and substance, and comicbook movies have the pressure on them to deliver.:D

The trick is to make you think you're looking at something substantial while you're watching mindless action. That way both the kid and the adult in you are satisfied (or at least, the kid is satisfied and the adult is only marginally embarrassed). :D

Life is a frosted mini-wheats commercial.

I think Dark Knight kind of ruined the superhero genre for me by just being way too good and setting the bar so high.

I would agree except that IMO, Christian Bale is such an unlikely and unlikable Batman that the movie might as well have sucked.

Is that what they're doing???
Thing is, I'm not embarrassed...

That was basically my whole philosophy on life right there.
Gotcha, makes sense to me. Dark Knight...hmmm...all depends on which characters you like before seeing the movie...for me, Batman, ehh, so I'm already biased against pretty much all Batman movies. Same with Superman for that matter..I mean, Superman???! but I digress.

I'm the other way around: the more of a fan I am of the character, the more critical I am of the movie.

Still waiting for a decent Hulk flick. And Toby McQuire is going to hell for ruining Spiderman for me.

Did a face palm initially when I first saw who they got to play Wolverine, but at this point I've come to terms with it. :p

Thor was a pleasant surprise all in all.
