Has AI become sentient?

It showed how much human language could be understood by an AI running on a sophisticated machine - in 2011. Off course the cutting edge programs are not available (or affordable) to even big companies, but AI is a top research field and I expect a human level AI by 2028 (that is the date given by Ray Kurzweil).

Well, it's been 11 years since 2011, and I guess they still can't afford it.

I'll look forward to 2028. If RF is still around (and you and I are still alive and posting by then), we can revisit this thread.

However, I have heard past predictions of expected technological achievements to look forward to in the future. They don't always pan out as we might expect.

EDIT: One thing I've observed about computer programmers and systems designers, even going back to the 1990s. They tend to oversell their products, and they're also in a hurry to get it out there, even if it's full of bugs and doesn't work very well.

Good point. But while the old banana software (the product ripens at the customer) would get updates and upgrades, the AI would change by itself, or, more precisely, with the customers input. And that could have some unforeseen consequences (like with Tay).
