Hate trying to think of titles to these threads

So, I didn't. :p

I'm Cricket, and I'm a Canuck :) .

I'm currently doing some serious soul searching...I lost my father last summer, suddenly, and it rocked my world. We were very close. Suddenly, I had to examine all my nebulous ideas and I felt the urge to define what it is that I believe so that I could find some peace, even if in the end, I was Atheist... At the risk of being melo-dramatic, it has evolved over the past months into a full on spiritual journey. :)

I haven't identified as Christian for years...I sort of assumed myself to be Pagan, but upon further examination, I don't know that I am. I can't get my head around poly-theism, for one thing. But I'm very leary of Judeo-Christian faiths at this time in my life and am still reeling from 18 years of Catholicism, including Catholic school.

In any case, I'm currently researching and soul-searching a bit, as I said...I asked some questions in the Quaker thread, and am considering attending a meeting, but I don't know where I'll end up. I'm just trying to be patient with myself and work out what I think and feel about everything.

Other than that, I'm a 30 y/o stay at home mom of 2 little kids, married to a wonderful guy who DOES identify as a Christian, but is not currently attending services. I'm also a musician, a holistic nutritionist and herbalist, love cooking, gardening and all manner of domesticity.

Thanks for having me and I'm enjoying reading the many threads here. :)

Welcome to the Forum, Cricket. And good luck with your inquiries.

By the way, have you looked into Universal Unitarianism? It's not my own faith, but on a hunch, you might find it an interesting one that is flexible enough to allow for, support, and encourage, your searching.

Hi, Sunstone, and thanks for the welcome! :)

I actually have attended UU services, but didn't love it. I'm not sure why, though...I felt like something was missing, even though philosophy-wise, there was nothing that I disagreed with, as such.

It could have just been that particular congregation, mind you, so I'm open to hearing about others, and re-considering them. :)

Thanks again!

That's quite interesting. Of course, there is no one religion that fits everyone on earth, so it's to be expected that UU wouldn't fit everyone.

Just out of curiosity, Cricket, have you looked into any of the Eastern religions -- such as Buddhism or Taoism?

I'm sorry to hear about your father.

We have some things in common, including the Catholic upbringing and the death of a loved one precipitating a spiritual evolution of sorts.

Welcome, Cricket. :)

Welcome, Cricket. :)

Thanks, Anne. It shook my world. There was a memorial for him, and others lost this past year, today. We released balloons. It was quite beautiful. I never would have thought I would be so spiritually shaken by the loss of a loved one, but then, I'd never lost anyone so close, so I suppose I really couldn't have seen it coming.

Thanks again for the welcome. :)

Hi, Sunstone. Sorry my reply has taken so long!

I have looked a bit at eastern religions. I love many, but find that few really resonate. I'm not sure if that would come with time, or not...

I do believe in reincarnation, at least on some level, but I tend to be a monotheist. I find Taoism FASCINATING. I also find Sikhism very compelling.

Christianity isn't totally off the table, either, but I do need some time to heal a bit from my upbringing. It wasn't the fault of the Catholic church as a whole, necessarily, but since the vast majority of the people in our Parish community were...pretty...xenophobic, bordering on downright unkind and fanatically judgemental ...I would need to see a different side of Christianity, in a big way. I married a Christian, and he's wonderful. He was raised evangelical, but is not currently attending. We have tried many protestant churches, and I was mostly left with a feeling of discomfort, and the distinct feeling that Christ in any case wouldn't approve of what was going on there.

I don't know. I might be looking for something that isn't even there. I'm willing to admit I know nothing right now, and really just want to read and talk to people from all over. I'm trying to work up the courage to attend my local Quaker meeting right now, but I am incredibly shy IRL, and I understand the meeting in my city is only about 12 people, so that's another barrier for me right now, too, as silly as it sounds. :(

Anyway, that's kind of where I'm at and what I've tried thus far. Maybe there's no perfect answer...Maybe it's just about taking a leap of faith SOMEWHERE.

Alright, now I'm just thinking out loud, so I'll stop it here. :p Thanks again!

Welcome!

btw, pagans dont have to be just polytheists. There are monists, monotheists, henotheists, katheotheists, blah, blah, blah. :)

Hi Nisou Kitsune! :)

You know, I have heard that...But when I have identified as Pagan, there has been very little...I guess spiritual support? or community? or something? for anyone who, not only doesn't identify as polytheist, but also anyone who doesn't identify with a particular pantheon and "stick with it". :p

I was one of the moderators for a Pagan forum (that shall remain nameless) once upon a time, and there was so much emphasis on identifying with a particular pantheon that was culturally appropriate, etc., etc., etc....That I found it overwhelming while I struggled to understand what sort of theist I actually was. My local Pagan community, also, tends to assume much of its participants, and I felt dis-enfranchised, to say the least.

I loved so much of Paganism, in some ways. I'm a nutritionist and herbalist by trade as well as a part-time musician, so as you can imagine, many parts of "the culture" of Paganism certainly resonated with me. The only thing missing was the spirituality. :p

I am not closed to it, however...Perhaps I was just looking in all the wrong places.

Thanks again!

Hey, I totally understand. Im sure you know by now that pagans dont proselytize, but I am not opposed to questions. If you dont wanna ask in a thread, just PM me. :)

Having an emphases on which trad you belong to is bull IMO. It doesnt matter what trad you are, or even if you have been initiated into a coven. There are plenty of people who happily practice by themselves or in a loose/open coven. I dont know much about Canadian pagans, but have you tried Witchvox?
