Smoked cigarettes for that much money which would have purchased me a Merc (though that is not what I would want my son to do, run of the mill care are enough for me). Powerful cars are an invitation to disaster in India.

Just last week, Billionaire Cyrus Mistry, former Chairman of Tata Group Chairman dies in a car crash.

Giving up tobacco was the hardest thing I ever did; much more difficult than giving up booze or drugs. 15 years on, I hardly ever think about a drink or mind altering drug, but sometimes when I get a whiff of someones cigarette smoke, I get a visceral longing for a puff. My lungs have paid the price, I get out of breath walking up a flight of stairs, but I enjoyed every one of the cigarettes I smoked, and I smoked a lot. And I still have a few books of Players cigarette cards.

I agree. Quitting smoking was very, very difficult. And this from a recovered alcoholic.

I haven't. I also can't handle being near cigarette smoke or the smell of it, so I suppose that has made it even easier not to want to smoke.

The poll is anonymous.
I had the usual fling as an uninformed youth, but when I came across an article in the New Scientist magazine (bought regularly by then) in the early 1960s, and which essentially confirmed the link between smoking and lung cancer, I stopped any such usage and even tried to get my friends to stop too. Of the small circle of friends almost all smoked to some extent. One died at the age of 65 from throat cancer - not sure if related - and don't know what happened to the others. Just seemed silly to me, given it usually became an addiction, and spending money on such that could be better spent elsewhere.

Do you include second-hand smoke?

Though I've never smoked, I found the smell of Newports calming(not sure why), and when stressed would buy a pack for a friend of mine that did smoke and ask him to smoke those instead. He would. He wasn't picky, and was happy for the free pack.
