Is there anyone here who has crossed paths with Hekate? Please, share your experiences of Her.

Doubtless we've all had experiences with Hekate, but not named those encounters as such. I have not named any of my experiences as belonging to Hekate, which isn't surprising since my theology doesn't orient around historical Pagan pantheons. As such, and unfortunately, the only things my memory labels as belonging to Hekate are various bastardizations of the goddess I've seen in popular culture, some very brief and simple research on the historical attributes of the goddess, and reading of some not-so-historical attributions of the goddess crafted by contemporary Pagans, and in particular Wiccans.

I have crossed paths with Hekate twice in my dreams. A couple of years ago, I dreamt I was praying to her statue in some cave. When I finished praying, I heard a voice saying that the goddess was like a beautiful and kind lady to all those who worshiped her but she was like a dragon to those who showed her no respect. Then, after two or three weeks, I dreamt I was praying in a church before the statue of Jesus surrounded by a pack of sacred dogs. The dogs had halos over their heads. These were very bizarre dreams. But when you think about Hekate being a triple deity and the concept of the holy Trinity, perhaps, there is something to it.

Thanks to those who have shared.

My interest in Hekate was sudden, in 2002. If I had to choose, she wouldn't have been the one I'd pick! From my recollection, I stumbled upon some information about her one day online, and for the next couple of months I could not get her out of my head. She was permeating my thoughts so much, I recall vividly lying in bed almost to the point of frustration because I couldn't think of anything else. It was possibly the strongest spiritual experience I've ever had.

From that point (with her help) I found the courage to actually practice some of what I'd been learning. I began leaving her offerings at new moon, burning incense, lighting candles, praying, and generally having a relationship with her. Volunteering at the dog shelter was the next logical step, which I did for the next couple of years.

A few years later I found myself stuck in a cycle of exploring neo-Paganism, then coming back to Hekate alone, and then exploring Sikhism. This cycle went on for a while, before I said a formal goodbye to Hekate and stepped onto the Sikh path.

Now that has gone full circle, I'm back to rekindling the relationship with her. I'm excited to see now that there is so much more interest in her properly, even with an organisation set up for her. :)

Most of the stuff floating around about Hekate is Wiccan fluffiness -- "crone" and all that. Like most ancient Greeks, I have her as one of my household gods with this image

which I have painted myself.

Hi David

Yes, one has to do a little digging to really learn about Hekate beyond the crone stereotype that is at the forefront. I kind of like that, actually. Helps to separate the wheat from the chaff. But there is not so much of this now, especially with Wikipedia, people with an interest would naturally go there early on and many myths are dispelled immediately.

She is amazing in that her qualities are so numerous.
