Hi, and welcome.
I am one of Jehovah's Witnesses, currently numbering above 8.5 million worldwide.
We are united as one body, in all the world, both in teachings, and Christian love.
This is due to the fact that no matter which part of the world we reside, we are all fed by one "shepherd". Matthew 24:45, and we endeavor to live by the Bible's moral standards, and principles, and the teachings and example of Jesus Christ.
Hence, we stay separate from the world - by staying politically neutral, free from racial prejudices (Our congregations are made up of people of all races and cultures) John 17:11-19.
Many of our beliefs and activities are not popular, but are based on scripture. For example... We preach the Good News of the Kingdom of God, from door to door, and on the streets, just as Jesus did, and as he instructed his followers to do. (Luke 8:1-3; 9:1-6; 10:1-7; Matthew 24:14; 28:19, 20)
We also do not celebrate the world's holiday - like Christmas, Easter, etc. nor those of patriotism... among others.
You can get more information from our official website, by going to
www.jw.org, and navigating to About Us -
FAQs.
That's a little bit about us. You can get more on
the website I mentioned.
Oh, some important facts to know about Jehovah's Witnesses... All our work is voluntary. We don't get paid... monetary, that is, for our work (we are paid spiritually, of course.
). Nor do we tithe or pass collection plates. Donations are made voluntarily by willing supporters - most of whom are Jehovahs Witnesses, and many who are not.
I am wondering though, when you say you "felt no real connection to the religion", what do you mean?
