Hillary knew the Americans wouldn't accept

No one ever seemed to talk about that Hillary would have been the first female president in USA. I know USA is all about proclaming itself as modern and all but really. If Hillary had been a man her story would have won.

If Hillary had been a man, no one would ever have heard of her. She only got famous because she was someone's wife. Some accomplishment.

I really think part of the reason she did not get elected was because she is a woman. I think the racial backlash and perceived disappointment of Obama administration transferred over to the perceived ideas that a female president would too, be disastrous.

Folks get sore of hearing it, but I think there's more than sufficient scientificevidence that most people -- both men and women -- prefer men to lead them, and are a bit hard to convince a woman can do as good of a job or better.

It was widely and frequently talked about during the presidential campaign that Hillary was handicapped by people's perceptions of women. Maybe folks put that out there hoping it would change things, get people to stop and think about her qualifications fairly. I can't honestly say whether that helped or or not.

It becomes less of a thing with each woman elected, though. Plenty of countries where's it's not much of an impediment.
New Zealand, for example.

Unfortunately in Australia, our first female (and atheist) PM underperformed. I suspect that's made it tougher on the next woman, but I'm not sure about that.

Yea, it is written in the Book of Cyril...

She wasn't even Australian! AND a ginger!

Probably, but then Bill would have been the first woman as president years before that...

In Finland we had a good president in Tarja Halonen, better than this guy we now have.
Not really shown herself to be better just more complicated affairs.

They talked about it all the time during the campaign.

Not so it would have reached my ear and I was listening. On the other hand in not allowed to hear about Obama if it's not in connectin with his race or - hell - sexuality.
My ears are bigger than yours.
"It's time for a woman" was all over the place.
Women gushed about putting one of their own in charge.

Perhaps you don't listen to NPR enuf, eh.

Why would anyone elect someone based on their gender?

Still don’t get it.

Can’t agree with the OP. Hillary lost because she was Hillary, not because she happens to also be female.

If Hillary didn't make a joke out of her illegal servers she would have had a better chance.
Hillary was her own undoing. Where was she in Benganzi? no one knows. Bad leadership. She could not recall one instruction from her security training? bad sign

She makes so many poor excuses for herself except for taking responsibbility and that's not a sign someone is presidential

On the cover of her book, the failure question was both asked and answered.

Didn't send help. Left people to die
then faked passing out and falling and all of a sudden a geriatrically selective memory
not presidential material
I don't think she had any singular problem.
It was a collection of many material shortcomings
which weren't offset by achievement & charisma.
The DNC machine greased the skids for a candidate
who wasn't ready for prime time.

Hillary didn't lose the popular vote.

The American people are now so thoroughly and evenly divided that most elections are very close. And the republican party has successfully rigged the voting system so as to ensure it wins these very close elections. Trump was basically appointed president by an electoral college that ignored the majority of popular votes. George W. Bush was also appointed, not elected, twice. The only way a democrat can win is if he/she gains a significant enough number of popular votes that it overwhelms those states that allow their electors to ignore the popular vote in their states (some states allow this, and some do not).

Doubt it. Male, female, black, white, you have to have a message for the country people get behind. I'm sure questionable prior behavior had something to do with switching Independents. But her base remained on her side.

Trump being voted in was more that he wasn't a typical politician. Showing that people are getting sick of both parties. Even Republicans were against Trump for that reason. The people wanted things stirred up and not the "same ol same ol".

Just my thoughts.
