HM Queen Elizabeth II has Died

Terrywoodenpic

I have now lived in five reigns.. the Queen's was the most significant by a country mile.
She will be sadly missed by millions.
She kept her prime minister's under advisement in her weekly Audience with them, and while we shall never know what passed between them. It is clear that they respected both her and her wise counsel.

We can expect king Charles to do no less.

The five, George V, Edward VIII, George VI, Elizabeth, Charles III.

Nothing says taste like performative grief for the matriarch of one of Earth's great villainous dynasties.
And nothing says irony like to ranting about taste. Please have the maturity to pollute elsewhere.

She was born into that position. My grandparents lived in my country when it was still a British colony, but I wouldn't blame Elizabeth II for that. I'm not among the camp who hate her just because of what she "symbolizes" because symbolism sometimes lacks nuance and relies too much on guilt by association.

I care more about what she herself did as the Queen. I'm not sure I have a solid opinion on that yet one way or the other, but I do know I'll console my friends who are grieving her passing--and I also know they're against colonialism and abuse.

I didn't hate her.

I do hate what she symbolised, and I resent what she was. And I am absolutely freaked out by the level of public weeping for an old rich, lady none of us knew and whose entire life was at the expense of others (also a bit raging they cancelled the football this week but not the rugby and cricket).

Well, I don't.
I don't think she was a hypocrite. She served God and her country.
..nothing wrong with that.

It is all part of our history .. God forbid that we throw it all away .. particularly righteous values. It is the only part of govt. that retains the importance of faith.
The House of Commons is just that .. a gathering of "commoners". ;)

OK, so religion can be political .. she did "shake hands" with Martin McGuiness of the IRA.
Christians are taught to forgive .. and make amends.
