I was just going by Genesis 19 (mostly because I've never read Ezekiel
):
And they called unto Lot, and said unto him: ‘Where are the men that came in to thee this night? bring them out unto us, that we may
know them.’
6And Lot went out unto them to the door, and shut the door after him.
7And he said: ‘I pray you, my brethren, do not so wickedly.
8Behold now, I have two daughters that have not known man; let me, I pray you, bring them out unto you, and do ye to them as is good in your eyes; only unto these men do nothing; forasmuch as they are come under the shadow of my roof.’
9And they said: ‘Stand back.’ And they said: ‘This one fellow came in to sojourn, and he will needs play the judge; now will we deal worse with thee, than with them.
The Ezekiel verses I listed are about the Sodom story.
And everyone seems to miss the given clue as to the meaning of "know" - in Gen 9.
Gen 19:9 And they said, Stand back. And they said
again, This one
fellow came in to sojourn, and he will needs
be a judge: now will we deal worse with thee, than with them.
The angels came to Judge and punish, and the men wanted to get their hands on them first - to Judge and punish.
The other - yada - story is Jdg 19:22.
Jdg 19:22 Now as they were making their hearts merry, behold, the men of the city, certain sons of Belial, beset the house round about, and beat at the door, and spake to the master of the house, the old man, saying, Bring forth the man that came into thine house, that we may know him.
Jdg 20:3 (Now the children of Benjamin heard that the children of Israel were gone up to Mizpeh.) Then said the children of Israel,
Tell us, what was this wickedness?
Jdg 20:4 And the Levite, the husband of the woman that was slain, answered and said, I came into Gibeah that belongeth to Benjamin, I and my concubine, to lodge.
Jdg 20:5 And
the men of Gibeah rose against me, and beset the house round about upon me by night,
and thought to have slain me: and my concubine have they forced, that she is dead.
Not have sex with him, - KILL HIM!
We actually find YHVH using a form of YADA (Gen 18:21) when he says he is going down
to ascertain and judge, and pronounce judgment on Sodom and Gomorrah. The way he is using it in the sentence, - is to inquire - and pass judgment. In this teaching story when YHVH uses yada - he sets the meaning for the whole story.
And obviously he isn't saying he is going down for some gay sex. LOL!
Gen 18:21 I will go down now, and see whether they have done altogether according to the cry of it, which is come unto me; and if not,
I know.
Also it was ALL the people - not just men as in the translation. The word actually means people.
Gen 19:4 But before they lay down,
the men (people) of the city,
even the men of Sodom, compassed the house round, both old and young,
all the people from every quarter:
