Means of transmission
Among males, the dominant mode of transmission (84%) was through male to male sexual contact. The next common modes were male-female sex (11%) and sharing of infected needles (4%). Among females, 92% was through male-female sex and 3% through shared needles. For both sexes, mother-to-child transmission occurred in 153 cases.

Rising numbers

The number of people living with HIV/AIDS has increased in the previous year. UNAIDS estimated about 36.9 million people suffering from the disease in 2017 – a record slightly higher than 2016 (about 36.7 million). Majority of those infected were adults.

35.1 million adults (15 years and above)

1.8 million children (below 15 years)

9.4 million unaware that they were living with HIV

Of these, about 1.78 million cases were newly acquired.

Globally, 69% of estimated affected individuals come from Africa with an estimated 25.7 million individuals diagnosed with HIV/AIDS. This is the highest among all regions in the world.

Asia and the Pacific, where the Philippines belongs, comes second with an estimated 5.2 million HIV cases, while Western and Central Europe and North America have about 2.2 million.

IN NUMBERS: Global HIV/AIDS cases still on the rise

Excerpt from Bohemian Rhapsody
by Freddie Mercury - Wikipedia

Too late, my time has come
Sends shivers down my spine
Body's aching all the time
Goodbye everybody I've got to go
Gotta leave you all behind and face the truth
Mama, oh oh (anyway the wind blows)
I don't want to die
Sometimes wish I'd never been born at all

Don't you dare use HIV as a way to bash LGBT people. It's extremely callous, shows you don't care about people who are + and are ignorant of the facts. Most people with HIV in the world are straight.

This is simply not true.
The majority of HIV transmission is from heterosex.

You're in the Philippines? Well, you have much bigger problems than HIV infections to worry about. Your country is ruled by a murderous psychopath. That's a much, much bigger problem.

So then by the definition you provide if those engaged in these practices employed them as a release of hetrosexual tension that wouldn't result in progeny then they aren't homosexual acts but merely birth control
With the exception of "but merely birth control", your comment is correct. However, many men who prefer sex with women, engage in male/male sexual activities. Many women who prefer sex with men engage in female/female sexual activities.

The world is not black and white. There are many shades in between.

Well percentage odds don't apply to a logical possibility. Once we have established whether or not it is a logical possibility then perhaps likelihood comes into play and we can discuss that. But first can we at least agree that it is a logical possibility?
Rubbish. Lots of things are "logically possible," and yet excessively remote in likelihood. It is certainly logically possible that I could select the winning lottery numbers 20 times in succession -- but I would not rate the odds at anything other than vanishingly small.

So, while it is "logically possible" that humans only developed the trait that a small number actually desire same sex relationships late in our history, even though our closest living relatives the chimpanzees and bonobos still enjoy it today, I rate the possibility extremely small.

Something else that might be different is reporting.
Many poorer countries seem to have upticks in something like a disease, when what really happened was better, more accurate, statistics. Because what is really being reported are diagnosis, which were likely under the true extent of the problem for many years. Especially the gay sex part.
I'm not necessarily describing your country, I don't claim to know about it in particular. But one thing I know is that the Philippines rank up there with Thailand for gay sex excursions, especially for pedophiles due to lax age statutes for consent.

In the ancient Assyrian society, homosexuality was present and it was also not prohibited. Religiously, there was nothing amiss with homosexual love between men. Some ancient religious Assyrian texts contain prayers for divine blessings on homosexual relationships.
Hebrew religion, related to (As)Syrian religion, knew of Inanna and such. Inanna says She is in charge of gender and can make men into women and women into men.
A hymn to Inana (Inana C): translation
Like Anat or Astarte, They were both Goddesses of Fertility and War (to varying degrees of each depending on the character), showing that They were functionally both (in terms of gender roles).

I was thinking more along the lines of a transgender person taking the hormones and the operation, etc. The reason I asked (and please forgive my ignorance because many of us are not as smart as you) is because our transgender bass player is undergoing her final operation tomorrow. After spending more than a year around her I have learned much, but there will always be questions.
Not sure how it worked in reality, but in mythology, divine intervention usually played a part.

female-to-male people could remove the breasts.
And metal penile prostheses or dildos have been found from the ancient world. Some had holes, clearly showing they were strap-ons.

I guess its a United Nations WHO based in the Philippines who gathered the report.

PRESS RELEASE: UNAIDS report indicates new HIV infections in the Philippines have doubled in the past 6 years

The Philippines now has the fastest growing HIV epidemic in Asia and the Pacific

MANILA, 1 August 2017—A UNAIDS Report on the global HIV epidemic states that the number of new infections in the Philippines has more than doubled in the past six (6) years from an estimated 4,300 in 2010 to an estimated 10,500 in 2016 (140% increase). The Philippines has become the country with the fastest growing HIV epidemic in Asia and the Pacific, and has become one of eight countries that account for more than 90% of new HIV infections in the region.

While the country has the fastest growing epidemic in terms of percentage increase, the number of new infections is not as high as several countries in the region which are estimated to have tens of thousands of new infections annually.

“The Philippines has a small window of opportunity to act now and stop a major HIV epidemic from taking hold,” said Eamonn Murphy, Director of UNAIDS Regional Support Team for Asia-Pacific. “If HIV programming is re-directed to focus on the people most at risk and where they are located, I’m sure the country can not only return to a stable situation but even end the AIDS epidemic as a public health threat by 2030.”

While the Philippines has controlled the HIV epidemic among female sex workers, the country noted a shift in the epidemic in 2007, and has therefore scaled-up services tailored to other key risk populations since that time. The Philippine data showed that in 2016, 83% of newly reported HIV cases occurred among males who have sex with males (MSM) and transgender women who have sex with males (TGW). The majority of the new infections are occurring among 15 to 24 year old MSM and TGW. In 2015, only 35% of 15 to 24 year old MSM and TGW had correct knowledge on HIV transmission and prevention. Condom use among MSM and TGW has increased from 36% in 2011 to 50% in 2015. The percentage of MSM and TGW who knew their HIV status by getting tested increased from 5% in 2011 to 16% in 2015; however this still remains low.

Well, by saying the odds are small you are admitting it is a logical possibility, once you have admitted that I will show why it may not be as unlikely as you seem to think, try and be a little open minded

Or so you claim

What, exactly are you disagreeing with?
Are you disagreeing that many women who prefer sex with men engage in female/female sexual activities?
Are you disagreeing that many men who prefer sex with women, engage in male/male sexual activities?

If so please explain why.

Women were also more likely than men to report having same-sex sexual contact. Compared with 17.4% of women, only 6.2% of men said they had ever had this activity.
