The EU works?,enlighten me,simply I object to our parliament giving up our sovereignty, little by little over a long period since the first referendum, the EU as it is now is a deflated joke, over complicated, pretentious and does anyone even care what the 5 presidents or commission think, what a mess it is,IMO the mess will get worse, the old guard will soon be gone and they (imo) we’re dire, good luck with the new,I reckon you’ll need it.

PS there were no laws imposed,we just had weak politicians.
Johnson has a huge majority voted for by less than 44% of the population - that isn't demopcratic
Who voted in Lord Frost and Dido Harding?

I'll never not be amused by Brits trying to argue how the EU Parliament isn't democratic but the House of Lords somehow is.

Who cares about the lords, the latest from France is about 40 fishing boats that failed to provide the right paperwork for a fishing licence so the french full of threats of cutting of the electric supply to Jersey, patifique oui,ok let the french pm have his say:

Lord Frost described language used by French Prime Minister Jean Castex as "clearly very troubling and very problematic" in the context of ongoing negotiations "trying to solve many highly sensitive issues, including on the Northern Ireland Protocol".

His comments followed the emergence of a letter by Mr Castex, seen by the BBC, which said the EU must demonstrate in this dispute that there was "more damage to leaving the EU than remaining there".

This alone is a solid gold reason to not be a part of the EU,Von der layen will be having hot flushes over that one.

In reality this isn’t about fishing licences, this is about Macron and elections but there are some sane voices from france:

Jean-Marc Puissesseau, president and chairman of the ports of Calais and Boulogne-sur-Mer, told BBC Radio 4's Today programme that the dispute concerned only about 40 boats, "a drop of water in an ocean".

He said these boats had been unable to prove their history of fishing in British waters, as the UK required, either because they had been unable to take part in a monitoring survey or because the fisherman had replaced their boats with newer models.

He said if sanctions were imposed by France, "it will be terrible for both sides of the Channel, for you, for us, for the ports, for the fishermen in your country, for the fishermen in our country - and that's only for 40 little boats that are not allowed to fish in your country".

The big but here is that France is part of possibly most bureaucratic organisations ever and somehow it’s the UKs fault that the right paperwork wasn’t presented.

Lord Frost (unelected bureaucrat - I thought they were only in the EU) agreed a deal with France, Johnson signed the deal. The UK is now rescinding on that deal, France is understandably annoyed.
The UK are at fault for signing an agreement they didn't like.

Isn't Brexit great - actually no, it is exactly as promised by Remoaners and called Project Fear by Brexiteers.

I think so,it’s exactly as brexiteers have always thought,it’s definitely not a trading block,it’s definitely not what was signed up for in the beginning and how hard it has been to leave is a resounding reason to do so,the french fishermen didn’t meet the requirements to fish in our waters,is that really our problem,France signed the same deal and are in the wrong, let’s see how the eu responds,it will be interesting but as far as the world goes nobody gives a **** what the EU says.

Sea law is very clear. Territorial waters are not under the jurisdiction of any other State.

ratiocinator

Lightly seared on the reality grill.

And let's not forget the NI protocol that Lord Frost signed up to, described as brilliant, and is now saying how it's got to change or he'll just trash it. The whole Tory party seems to have forgotten what they negotiated and signed up to (assuming they even bothered to read it in the first place). This is Boris's "oven ready" deal. Isn't it going well?

BUT we are worse off without it 4% reduction in GDP due to Brexit according to Governments own OBR.
We are almost at war with France over an irrelevant part of our economy, meanwhile the important parts clear off to Frankfurt and Rotterdam.
Trade deals with countries miles away that offer us absolutely no benefit and do nothing for the environment.
Pumping raw sewage into our seas and rivers - that was regulated by the EU
You underestimate the influence of the EU

I could go on ... perhaps you can list the benefits that I am missing

and how hard it has been to leave is a resounding reason to do so

It wasn't hard for the UK to leave.
It took the UK years to come to terms with what kind of future relationship it wanted with the EU.
It were the representatives of the UK who arrived completely unprepared to the first talks with the EU representatives. As in the Brits arrived with an empty piece of paper while our guys did so with files upon files.

There is exactly one culprit of why it took so long and that is the UK.

The UK could've left the EU without any preparation the very next day.
You would've just starved and destroyed your entire country.

France signed the same deal

France has not signed anything. It's an UK - EU agreement.
I am not surprised that you not understand this. Your leaders also tried to negotiate with every single EU country separately, they should've known that it doesn't work that way.
Alas they are idiots.

and are in the wrong

Are you generally against the UK upholding what it has put into law or just whenever you feel like it?

Fact: The UK agreed to allocate fishing rights to French fisherman. So far it has refused to realise this.
Hence the current situation.

let’s see how the eu responds,it will be interesting but as far as the world goes nobody gives a **** what the EU says.

You really are a little Englander who still believes the sun never sets upon the Empire.

Sea law is very clear. Territorial waters are not under the jurisdiction of any other State.

Unless of course people come to an agreement which says otherwise.
Which the UK literally has done.

It's like agreeing with your neighbour that he can use 10% of your shed only to be annoyed that he wants to use 10% of your shed.

Correct, the EU has soooo many files apart from the french fishermen, ironic isn’t it.

There is exactly one culprit of why it took so long and that is the UK.

Of course it’s all our fault.

You mean threats of cutting of electricity supply to jersey or blocking ports like the french pm wants,to come down hard on on Britain, really, you want to be part of that?.

France has not signed anything. It's an UK - EU agreement.

No it doesn’t work that way with the mafia either.

Are you generally against the UK upholding what it has put into law or just whenever you feel like it?

I’m all for the law,I’m not much for the red tape of the eu but ironic it is that 40 french fishermen failed to present the right paperwork for a fishing licence, really you don’t need a degree to apply for one.

Fact: The UK agreed to allocate fishing rights to French fisherman. So far it has refused to realise this.

Wrong,see above.

You really are a little Englander who still believes the sun never sets upon the Empire.

BTW,national socialism doesn’t work here,just saying.

Unless of course people come to an agreement which says otherwise.
Which the UK literally has done.

Really?

It's like agreeing with your neighbour that he can use 10% of your shed only to be annoyed that he wants to use 10% of your shed.

Except it’s nothing like that analogy,it’s 40 fishermen that are hopeless with forms and providing evidence of fishing in our waters, how hard can it be,they should be used to it being an eu citizen.
