How Bad Will It Get?

Trump is no fan of the Constitution, so MAGA must not be also.

He has threatened the broadcast license of CBS (First Amendment right of freedom of the press.)

He has threatened to jail people who criticize judges (First Amendment right of free speech.)

Trump will not act on his own. I do not mean that he will just be a signing machine. He would do what is suggested by the bureaucracy. Some of them are intelligent people and I hope they will steer US away from pitfalls during the next four years.
Don't complain, US, you have to bear it. You were given a chance but you missed it.

He surrounds himself with people who tell him what he wants to hear. This means he will be completely ignorant about what is really going on in the world.

Twilight Hue

Twilight, not bright nor dark, good nor bad.
Prices are up because economic activity is up.

There's more demand for raw materials, so the prices have gone up, which gets passed along as consumer price increases for finished products.

More people are working, so the housing market can bear higher prices.

It sucks when wages don't keep up with inflation, but there are lots of people working now who weren't working during Trump’s first term and lots of people who would have been laid off if things hadn't improved under Biden.
Well that's one issue that is going to have to be addressed. I regard the CPI to be very inclusive to hsving a healthy vibrant economy.

No. We actually hit the bullseye. Granted the next four years will have to be the proving ground for that.

Well that's one issue that is going to have to be addressed.

What issue? Supply and demand?

Short of a market-controlled economy, I don't think you'll really be able to "address" the fact that when more people are doing well, retailers can charge more for stuff.

I regard the CPI to be very inclusive to hsving a healthy vibrant economy.

Have a low CPI certainly helps as long as you're one of the lucky ones who keeps their job despite the economy tanking.

You can definitely get houses cheaper when there are lots of foreclosure auctions, but I wouldn't call that situation "healthy" or "vibrant".

My take on what this is means is more from the Humanist viewpoint.

I’ve lost faith in America, and that has caused me to lose a little faith in humanity itself. I don’t know how America or the world can resist Trump's worst plans. I predicted this election incorrectly, because I believed in a certain basic goodness in people that would be expressed in the solitude and sanctity of the polling booth. I was wrong. I think, frankly, that many Americans acted out of pure selfishness – because their eggs cost too much – not understanding that the inflation they so hate is the price EVERYBODY paid to ensure that hundreds of thousands of business didn’t close, that millions of your fellows would not suffer bankruptcy or penury after the pandemic. They've sold their birthright for a mess of pottage.

My worst fears, right now, are for the people who are most at risk. Today, millions must now live in fear of being swept up by Trump's cruel mass deportation plan. Documented immigrants as well as undocumented, and millions of American citizens with undocumented parents or spouses.

More Americans now must fear that they'll be forced to give birth or be denied life-saving care during an ectopic pregnancy or miscarriage. Today, America has become less safe for trans people – especially trans kids who were already at risk of violence and discrimination. It is less safe for LGBTQ+ people who have so recently won the right to love who they love, and to marry them. And anyone else – anyone who has already faced prejudice and marginalization is now in greater danger.

I fear for Ukraine, who will now in all likelihood lose their homeland and their freedom. I fear for the Palestinians of Gaza and the West Bank, since Trump has long told Benjamin Netanyahu to “do what you have to do.” And those fears lead me to fear, a little down the road, for more of Europe and for the whole Middle East.

Trump has also promised to seek revenge against his political opponents. Countless Americans are endangered now on a scale and intensity almost unheard of in modern America. Your press will become less free, and that will help to erode democracy, which is now on a downward slide. How will decent Americans, protect these people and resist these forces? I don’t know, and I don’t think you do, either. A packed Supreme Court has given him almost unchecked power.

What can anyone do now to resist the Trump/Vance Administration – how can you protect the people in harm's way, (if you even want to), and how will you preserve and reclaim your democracy. (Or are you just happy to let it go?)

Today, millions are grieving and/or frightened, and more millions around the world are so much less certain of the future.

And so am I.

Let's see what Trump does about the high cost of food and shelter. I guess a depression would fix that.
He's promised to increase the price of both with import tariffs.
As economists predict if he imposes tariffs it will lead to a recession. I suspect the economy will remain strong through 2025 but by 2026 the impact of tariffs will begin to cause problems. If he deports the migrants as he promised that will cause a huge labor problem, and prices will incease in food and construction and hospitality.

And we have to consider the social devolution that will come from MAGA government. If RFK is appointed to control medicine, the CDC, the FDA and other areas of health there will be a serious health backlash. Women's reproductiove rights will be a target. Mental health will become more of a crisis. I say this because of the simple fact that voters just elected Trump. One of the worst presidents in history, and a corrupt criminal. What does this say about how voters think and feel? Whatever motivates so many to use poor judgment they are encouraged now to continue that manner of thinking and decision making.

So I think we have about a year of fairly stable living and after that America is going to have serious evonomic and social problems.

The stock market jumped over 1000 points after Trump won.
That is I suppose bad news for developing nations like India. The US companies will withdraw their investments. Then increased tariffs. Let us see, how Indian market has reacted to Trump victory.

He will gut the DOJ to keep himself out of prison for his many past crimes.

His new corrupt DOJ will then be used to punish anyone that speaks out against him, and to exonerate anyone committing crimes that serve his desires.

He couldn't care less about the difficulties facing the American people, or people anywhere on Earth, so he will begin gutting the systems of public aid like Social Security and Medicare, and FEMA, and the CDC and so on. And his insane sicophants in office will do all they can to enable this.

And as more citizens then fall into poverty, addiction, and homelessness, he will have them gathered up and disposed of via labor camps, deportation, who knows. And his supporters will be fine with this.

He will end support for Ukraine, and stop supporting NATO, the UN,and Israel. But none of that money will go to support the American people. He and his criminal cronies will steal it all,

Just for starters.
This is one reason why the republicans won. The left has sick beliefs like this.

Trump is currently winning. Let’s assume he gets re-elected.

He has said that he will be a dictator on day 1.
Trump has always represented hard-core right-wingers, and holds contempt for left-wing ideas/ideals.
He has stated that he will shut down broadcasting networks who disagree with him.
That outspoken comedians, and Democratic political leaders, and outspoken students, etc…. Should be arrested, killed, or thrown out of the USA.

What will he really do?

- He’s a trickle down economics believer, so he’ll yet again lower taxes on the rich, and give a tiny/short-term bonus to the 99.9% of us, like he did last time.

- He’ll try to appease his voters by yet again doing almost nothing to secure the southern border, while claiming that he is. However, he wants ICE and other law enforcers to be immune from prosecution…..so will shooting of asylum seekers become a reality?

- I doubt he will sic agents (military or otherwise) against political enemies, but there will be a palpable decline in voices being raised against his (and MAGAs) atrocities. I.e. the press will become even more right-wing-biased than it already is. This will allow more disinformation in at least the next two sets of elections.

- That last item will also translate into more women’s rights suppression.

- As he did last time, his mismanagement of the economy will destabilize the stock market, leading to lower bank loaning confidence, leading to more difficulty for small business start-ups, leading to more large corporations growth.

- He will hand the Ukraine over to his pal Putin. Genocide will result,

- He will unleash and fully fund Israel's war throughout the Middle East, perhaps getting the US to aid with our troops. But more likely it will simply result in much more Islamic animosity and an increase in terrorist attacks, both internationally and domestically.

- He will once again willfully ignore (Against all advice) the threat of nuclear weapons from North Korea and Iran, so their programs will shift into overdrive.

What else?
I believe that in the next two years we will be able to separate what was political manipulation of facts and what the truth was and is.

Remembering how in 2016 they said he would create wars - and yet he stopped a war anf no more wars were added.

That being said, we will now see a plethora of anti-Trump manipulation of what is going to happen when he becomes the President

Sure, if you say so.
"Heartiest congratulations my friend...on your historic election victory. As you build on the successes of your previous term, I look forward to renewing our collaboration to further strengthen the India-US Comprehensive Global and Strategic Partnership. Together, let’s work for the betterment of our people and to promote global peace, stability and prosperity," Modi said on X.

Me too. I still can't believe how so many could find Trump the better option. Disinformation? Simple poor judgment? Low information? Emotional decision making? Harris and all of her supporters did a good job and presented a sound case. The fault isn't theirs, it is the voters who elected a criminal for president. How they arrived at that decision we don't know. What more poor judgment they will make, we don't know. The dominos will start falling on January 21.
My worst fears, right now, are for the people who are most at risk. Today, millions must now live in fear of being swept up by Trump's cruel mass deportation plan. Documented immigrants as well as undocumented, and millions of American citizens with undocumented parents or spouses.
All people at risk have about 2 and a half months to get their affairs in order. Those who will enact project 2025 are getting ready to enforce those ideas soon after the inauguration.

We will see what the "Genocide Joe" people will think when the criminal president starts helping Netanyahu eliminate the people of Gaza. In any event the world is less safe and stable due to this election result.

And so am I.
I feel like those in 1930's Germany whose conscience could not agree with the policies of the government, and were in essence prisoners of conscience in a criminal nation.

Being liberal I really feel as if I will be a prisoner of conscience in a criminal nation. Will any of us be able to safely speak our minds, and hope to not be targeted? I don't know yet, but there are surely many in America willing to use poor judgment and reject any tolerance that is typical for a nation founded on liberty.
