How do you relax?

Relaxing (in moderation) is important for health, research has shown it helps boost your immune system, reduces stress, helps keep your heart healthier, reduces muscle tension, it can improve your brain function and memory, and helps to avoid depression and anxiety.

For me it depends, i find cooking to be relaxing, walking in the forest relaxes my mind. There are a couple of places out there that I sit and wilt to the sound of river tinkling or leaves rustling in the breeze. I find sitting in on the veranda with a good strong coffee and listening to the forest change from night sounds to day sounds to take my morning grogginess away and set me up for the day.

How about you, what do you do to take a little time out and relax?

Nothing works better for me, and as reliably, than eating something I enjoy. All by myself.

If running relaxes you then yes of course.
Spookily..I'm reading a book (called Stolen Focus by Johann Hari) and have this very moment read about achieving a state of "timeless" flow.
Three core elements:
1. Clearly defined goal.
2. Something that is meaningful to you.
3. Edge of your ability.

Currently for me... upcoming 15K race. Let's get flowing!

For my body, which aches more with each passing year, a little Tia-Chi is amazing.
For my mind, communing with nature. I think, in general I find the best overall is to slow down but keep moving.

Now I just have to find a sure-fire method for getting back up when I get close and personal with the soil. LOL

What style specifically?
I find that intriguing because I would never describe Tai Chi (or did you mean something else?) as relaxing.

I do my own routine of postures and movements that I have found through trial and error to be the most mindful. My favorite is a combination that indicates to me the gathering of chaotic energy, drawing it inward, holding it internally as the breath revitalizes it to love. Then I use the lotus to grow and bloom, releasing this positive energy back into the world.

I also find calming waters and strumming the lute relaxing, and quite a few others that I have adapted.

Check YouTube for senior programs as they are directed towards mind calming flexibility and physical balance.

The perfect day for me starts with prayer, then 5 minutes Tai Chi followed by 20 minutes meditation, and a swim in Highgate Ponds. After that life can do what it wants, I'm all set to go with the flow.

I generally can't really relax as such, but my brain generally run on overtime the whole time.
I can shut it off for short periods, but that is it.

My most preferred method of relaxation is sitting my butt in my reclining chair, whilst the TV is on. My four foot aquarium is also in the room, so I can have a very good view of that, and it's also very relaxing.

I highly recommend an aquarium for relaxation.
