One has to wonder why western leaders tend to embrace and defend such an ideology.

It's no different than bad drug laws that people are sentenced to jail for. People believe certain drugs are bad because they are illegal, and they believe they are illegal because they are bad, this kind of circular reasoning is instilled in people once laws are in place. So who is innocent and who is guilty once bad laws are instilled? We can point fingers at people living in Pakistan but it can happen anywhere.
