How Exactly Did The Russians Influence The U.S. Elections?

Whether that's true or not, Trump can be said to have won because he lied with impunity.
He said he would release his tax returns. He refused to do so.
And here's the point. Hillary is not important any more. Trump is. He was commonly touted as the "tells it like it is" candidate while lying and dissembling in public. And the usual response from his supporters was to change the subject or explain why lying is OK when it's a lie they want to hear.
Tom
If you say so. I think he struck a nerve with the working men and women of this country. A segment the left purports to defend, but has failed miserably.

It isn't me saying it. It's Trump. He said he would release his tax returns and then he didn't. That is just one example of Trumps willingness to lie when it suits the goal.

By lying. He can say anything, and when proven to be false his supporters will ignore it or say it doesn't matter.

Trump is the one who matters now.
I watched as the Republican Right trashed my country. I watched as the Democratic left brought it back. Now the lies told by the Republican candidate don't matter again.
Again!

If you say so. I think the tax returns are much ado about nothing. Seriously, who cares?!

Do you forgive Hillary for the lies she tells?

The russians planted 'disinformation seeds' into the American populace. People voting based on lies and falsehoods for the corporate agenda.

There are people in America voting who will tell you the following falsehoods.

-Hillary killed 4 Americans in Benghazi
-The Clinton Foundation is a criminal enterprise
-Bill Clinton visits islands for pedophile sex
-Planned Parenthood uses tax dollars for abortions
-Illegal immigrants are freely walking into this country
-Global warming is a hoax
-Democrats hate the constitution
-Normal news is wrong
-Hillary's committed multiple crimes with the email server
-Benghazi
-etc...

My brains hurting thinking of all the propaganda. Tons more. Now, democrats don't do this.

So, can we agree that Trumps supporters are OK with a dishonest candidate?
I am not asking anything about Hillary or the democrats or liberals or anyone but Trump and his supporters.
Are Trumps supporters OK with a point blank lie if it comes from Trump?

What is somewhat hilarious here, Metis is that you make it sound like the American government, throughout modern history, has never meddled in the internal affairs of other sovereign nations. Hell, meddling with the internal affairs of other sovereign nations is practically the great American pastime. Then, when there is a possibility that a foreign government may have meddled with your hideous excuse for an election that is somehow a reason to start screaming? LOL. Shall I start a charity to ship tonnes of boxes of Kleenex down to hard done by American voters? Boo-fricken-hoo...
Well, maybe you should turn that around and laugh at yourself as I have been very critical of our actions that I have long believed were deplorable going all the way back to our blatantly immoral involvement even before the Vietnam conflict. I was so angry that, had I been drafted, my wife and I had made the decision that we would move to Canada where I have relatives (Quebec). It wasn't that I was afraid to go but because what we did was immoral, imo. And that is by no means the only area whereas I've been critical. If you want, I can give you a list of some others. Are you interested?

So, it begs the question as to why you jumped to the conclusion you did without first asking me?

They certainly have been. And now he's at war with our own intelligence community that we rely on for security information, plus he has as of this date received only four intelligence briefings because he's not interested in any more.

On top of that, I wonder how many here remember that Trump actually publicly asked the Russians to hack into and find Hillary's deleted e-mails? But, like he correctly admitted, he could shoot someone between the eyes and his supporters would still support him. We have reached a new low.

I didn't. I simply pointed out that you expected me to take your, and other republicans, opinion over that of experts around the globe. You took it as me calling republicans dumb.
Your post (#107) wasn't a slight about their intelligence?
Of course it was.
But even worse, you're taking the word of these unnamed experts because they're highly
intelligent.....and without evidence? Note too that everything shown me by the Russian hacking
conspiracy theorists talks only of speculation that it's the Russians. How can you be so sure
when even they aren't?
Add to this the fact that Obama loathes Trump, & wanted Hillary to win. Now his experts
are claiming secret evidence for something which Hillarites believe would harm Trump?
I've no faith in such convenient unevidenced claims.
Certainty is impossible. I never claimed certainty. But everything points to them. Nothing points to anyone else.
You don't talk of Russians likely doing it....you say they did it.
This is unwarranted certainty.

What points to them?
With what probability of belief?
How do you know it can't be anyone else?
I am a republican who supported the other guy in the primary and voted for Hillary as the best option. How on earth does that make me responsible?
In that case, you aren't.
But you want to make me responsible for anything bad Trump does,
without even considering.....
- All the potential for Hillary to be even worse.
- The fact that Trump hasn't even assumed office yet.

You entirely ignore the fact that we were presented with a choice between 2 bad alternatives.
If I pick the lesser of 2 evils, that does not mean that whatever evil befalls us is my responsibility.
I played the odds, & made the best choice possible, given all the information available.
By voting for Hillary, you were voting for sexism, war, racism, high taxes, corruption, incompetence,
big government, authoritarianism, & bland pantsuits. To vote against that (in opposition to you)
was the most moral responsible thing to do, despite the fact that it poses risks too.
Yes, she was beaten by leaked info along with an FBI director who chose to highlight her investigation while ignoring Trumps.
Listen, I am not going to keep going around and around on this. Just remember this conversation. Remember you are the one who claimed she was 'more corrupt' than Trump. I suspect you will eat those words before long.
I see what's going on.....

Hillary voters are hurt, disappointed & angry that they didn't get their way. The polls &
the media assured them that she'd win by a landslide. Government & the media worked
overtime to demonize Trump as the next Hitler. He absolutely had to lose.

But Hillary had skeletons in her closet. So did the DNC in its corrupt anointment of her.
This all came out, & the voters responded by dumping her. Her fans cried, whined,
screamed, accused, rioted & railed against this outcome. They need someone to
blame....a great unfair evil to focus upon...to excuse her loss....to feel righteous indignation.

Lo....they seize upon murky secret speculations by anonymous government experts
(working for Obama) that the Russians are guilty. They blame us (Trump voters) for
gnoring this unverified conspiracy theory, & so we're dimwitted "dupes" who are "conned".
You & they make it personal in lieu of having any real substance....just anger & blind
faith that her coronation was sabotaged.

"Eat my words", you say.
"Dodged the bullet" I say.
Bad things could happen under Trump.
Worse things could happen under Hillary.
So it's a bad idea to act like you have THE TRUTH, or the moral & intellectual high ground.

Taxpayer funded?
How do you arrive at that?
I pay for access.....a lot.
Maybe things are different down there in the land of baby-stealing dingoes, eh.

How can we trust the intelligence community , when they has made mistakes in the past?

It might sound like a controversial charge, but according to former CIA agent Claire Lopez, President Obama has actively worked to forward radical Islam. According to her, the president has gone so far as to switch sides on the war on terror.

According to Lopez, the charges she is making are what many in Congress are thinking but daren’t say out loud.

The Examiner reported on Friday that Lopez comes well qualified to make such allegations, as she has occupied many senior positions during her career with the CIA. Among other jobs, Lopez is the Vice President for Research and Analysis at the Center for Security Policy and a Senior Fellow at The Clarion Project, the London Center for Policy Research, and the Canadian Meighen Institute.

I had posted this video, that it shows how can we trust anyone, since our government has had a very bad history of doing a lot for those that gives generously.

All this garbage about tax returns reminds me of the £350m posted on the side of the Brexit bus.

No one of sound mind believed it literally.

Unevidenced is a stretch.

I don't. But there are tens of billions in oil money at stake (probably more). I don't know anyone else with even close to that strong a motive.

In that case, you aren't.
But you want to make me responsible for anything bad Trump does,
without even considering.....
- All the potential for Hillary to be even worse.

We have a pretty good indication of what Clinton would have done. Her husband was president for 8 years after all. The world didn't end.

You entirely ignore the fact that we were presented with a choice between 2 bad alternatives.

And we have yet to see if he was the lesser of two evils. It's not looking good, and as you point out, he isn't even in office yet. Over half the country disagree with you.

No, that's not it at all. Election tampering by government officials is a serious thing. As is the notion of foreign powers influencing elections. It's sad that you dismiss both just because it benefits your guy.

In this case, I believe I do have the moral high ground. You are simply brushing aside major problems in this election because you benefited from them.

Clinton was a flawed candidate. No question about that. But that does not excuse hacking servers and the FBI influencing elections.

Unevidenced is a stretch.
They say they have evidence.
We're just not allowed to see it.
I call that "unevidenced" from the voter's perspective.
I don't. But there are tens of billions in oil money at stake (probably more). I don't know anyone else with even close to that strong a motive.
How does oil (whose oil?) lead to the Russian hacking conspiracy?
We have a pretty good indication of what Clinton would have done. Her husband was president for 8 years after all. The world didn't end.
The world ended for the many people incarcerated for life over small offenses (1994 Crime Bill's 3 strikes provision).
Should we expect that Hillary would deliver results attributed to Bill?
That's not a very attractive picture.
But despite Bill's claim of an "unprecedented co-presidency" they are different people.
Moreover, circumstances differ, & response to them cannot be predicted to be the same as during Bill's rein.
And we have yet to see if he was the lesser of two evils. It's not looking good, and as you point out, he isn't even in office yet. Over half the country disagree with you.
It was guesstimation.
Anyone believing they know how each candidate would turn out suffers from illusions.
Only a fifth of the country voted for her, so how do you know a majority of Americastanians disagree?
You must accept that he was the better campaigner, & that he won.
No, that's not it at all. Election tampering by government officials is a serious thing. As is the notion of foreign powers influencing elections. It's sad that you dismiss both just because it benefits your guy.
That's not the reason I dismiss the seriousness of the hacking.
(But it is the reason it doesn't bother me.)
Hillary & the DNC are the ones who implemented poor information security.
Hillary & the DNC are the ones who practiced corruption which was divulged.
We should blame them....not the messenger.
In this case, I believe I do have the moral high ground. You are simply brushing aside major problems in this election because you benefited from them.
We each believe we have the moral high ground.
Because we differ in our values & evaluation of the candidates.
Clinton was a flawed candidate. No question about that. But that does not excuse hacking servers and the FBI influencing elections.
You continue to complain about how Hillary had some disadvantages.
It just isn't fair!
But what say you of media corruption which favored her, eg, NPR, NYT, Hillary getting
debate questions in advance? To criticize unfairness to the Democrat, while remaining
silent on unfairness to the other parties is to miss what is going on.
Elections have all been filled with unfortunate events, unfairness, dirty tricks, & dumb luck.
This time, the net benefit accrued to Trump.
Instead of making excuses, she should lick her wounds, & stoically fade away.

Btw, Trump gained votes in all the completed recounts which she & Jill wanted.
