How important is your ancestry in paganism?

You are socially allowed to be proud in Western society. Because Heathenry is European, it is apparently wrong to be proud. It is allegedly racist to be proud of European culture, religion, or descent.
It is not just pride, it also entails a responsibility (Dharma, Pashtunwali) to keep our traditions and not to do something which will tarnish an old lineage. Each section of Hindu society has such traditions. We are proud of all of them. That is our ethics bank.

Human ancestry is irrelevant to my path. I honor the broader ancestry of the planet's biodiversity, but I have no interest in focusing on human ancestry. It holds (almost) no meaning for me. It certainly holds no sway over what gods I choose to worship.

Broader ancestry, though, absolutely does. But that isn't what this thread is about, I suppose. Humans talk about ancestors, and they nearly always mean blood relatives or other humans. I don't think about it that way. I think back along the evolutionary tree of life. All the way back. :D
