Sounds like you are indeed just using both words as if they are synonyms.

How about this: give a concrete example.

From the definition of purpose...
"the reason for which something is done or created or for which something exists."

This definition implies planning and intent.

Not really the same thing as intent.

Except it is. "the reason why something is done".
That is intention. Doing X for reason Y. Intention.
It even implies agency.

There can even be reasons without reasoning. Not my fault human language is imperfect. I was still quite clear.

Let's see.

A reason does not equal intent. Doing something intentionally FOR a reason does -but only due to the intent.
Gave enough examples.
