How To Make Yourself Look Like A Fool

Seems that Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona kind of used President Regan's words and changed the entire concept of President Regan's words in a speach to the Western Governors Assoiacition winter meeting.
Cardona said: ”I think it was President Reagan said, "We're from the government. We're here to help"".
When in fact President Regan actually said: "The nine most terrifying words in the English language are: I'm from the gobvernment, and I'm here to help".
Now given the point that Regan did say what the words that Cardona used but it is obvious that President Regan didn't try to put forth the idea that Cardona is advocating for. Now I don't know if Cardona doesn't know that President Regan was not exactly in favor of big governent, or was using the same subterfuge that some politicans and news media personalities use. However, either way it makes him look like an uneducated and or uninformed individual. Now in my opinion Secretary Cordona is an indication of why our public schools are doing so poorley.

You found a democrat that made an error while speaking. That's adorable.

Reagan's quote was to encourage Americans to despise the American government.
Corporations aren't fans of the government because corporations don't want to pay taxes.
Similar to another Republican corporate quote "shrink the government to where it can be drowned in a bathtub"
Another Reagan quote ""Government is not the solution to our problem, government is the problem." (their problem is corporate taxes)
These quotes have nothing to do with the American people and their taxes, but to encourage less taxes for corporations (get rid of IRS, etc)

The real Reagan quote is just a huge con and many conservatives fell for it. The Republican party has actually managed to convince people that it is somehow wrong to expect their government to serve them. That way they can get elected and do absolutely nothing to meet the needs of their constituents.

Perhaps Cardona did not use that phrase the way Reagan did, but he used it better.

The problem with government is it does not solve problems. Government wants to grows bigger, which is easier to do if you make problems worse or create new problems; subjectively or objectively. Government interfered with student loans, to create this huge student debt problem, that then tried to fix that problem with more government. The new money pit was stopped short before it became a new permanent agency. If they had stay out of it, from the beginning, so many students would be better off. The free market would have directed many student in other directions.

Can you name any Government Agency designed to address a problem, which solved the problem, and then disappeared? How about the war on poverty? Can you name me any agency that makes the problem worse by virtue of it growing each year and never going away? How about the war against poverty?

The Government is like a contractor that you hire to fix a problem; add a new wall plug. What should have been an easy fix and the contractor gone in a few days, turns into an elaborate reconstruction job. The entire house is now in shambles. But the contractor is doing well.

Government serves power. Power is a function of how much of other people's money you have to spend. If one was to reduce that money, you reduce power. Solving problems will reduce power and is avoided. Government is supposed to be for the people, but it is for itself. Deficit spending does not benefit the people, since it kicks the can down the road, so the power seekers of today thrive at the expense of the future; Money pit is only good for the short sighted needs of power.

You cannot fire government workers except under extreme circumstances. If it was easier to fire people, the work force would decrease and then power would follow suit. So a system was set up to create a labor floor for power, with incompetence and the internal problem created, justifying more money for more power. Reagan took on the Unions and reduced the size of government, with those drunk with power and fearing loss of power, not liking Regan after that.

President Regan actually said: "The nine most terrifying words in the English language are: I'm from the government, and I'm here to help".

The Government is not there for you, but to serve their own power; buy votes with other people's money. This is called pork barrel or partisan projects like green energy. It is better not to let government plant a new root, unless there are agency term limits and rewards only for efficiency. No more reward for perpetual money pits.

The Department of Education has allowed national test scores to decline over the past 20 years. Yet its budget is higher today. This Money Pit, may be cut off, and then reformed to be more for the people it serves. Biden would keep pumping money into this agency to get Teachers Union campaign donations. Trump will gut it and rebuild it and get more reward for less money. That will be resisted since it impacts power.

Those are my favourite. I once had an entire calendar with a different Bushism for every day of the year. Funny stuff!

The problem with government is it does not solve problems.
The government does solve problems. Republicans tell you it doesn't, which in turn makes you want to get rid of the government (see previous post for motivation to get rid of govt)
Can you name any Government Agency designed to address a problem, which solved the problem, and then disappeared?
EPA. The agency doesn't disappear because that's not normal.
The Government is like a contractor that you hire to fix a problem;
Incorrect. The government should not be treated as a business.
Government serves power.
The people form government via elections. If you're not happy with your elected representatives, you have yourself to blame.
You cannot fire government workers except under extreme circumstances.
Who knows, I don't care...
The Government is not there for you, but to serve their own power; buy votes with other people's money.
Yes, Reagan gave our govt over to corporations. Republicans continue to do so. You have no issues with that.
The Department of Education has allowed national test scores to decline over the past 20 years.
How have they let them decline? I do know that Republicans are adamant about defunding public education. I guess govt needs to adjust their standards huh?

I agree it was a sloppy mistake:

”I think it was President Reagan [who] said, "We're from the government. We're here to help"".

This guy is the countrie's Secretary of Education and he's demonstrating a lack of understanding of American politics, a shaky grasp on our recent history, and on top of that his grammar sucks.

Now in my opinion Secretary Cordona is an indication of why our public schools are doing so poorley

Yeah, I think it would be a fair call to take this as a sign of how low the bar is now.
