humankind is evil: change my mind

Is humankind evil?

I think so.....

Humankind is evil. Change my mind :D

Consider the following:

Humankind has declared planet Earth to be its property

I'm not sure where it got that idea from......

Humankind is destroying the environment

Humankind is unwilling to live in balance with the natural world that sustains it

It has declared an enormous free-for-all on the Earth's resources that is detrimental to life and biodiversity

Humankind is obsessed with accumulating a profit

Its whole social and political organisation reflects its obsession with profit as does its entire culture, which serves to pacify dissent and brainwash people

Humankind persecutes and exploits itself

Humankind turns differences into divisions

Humanity is vain and self-obsessed

It knows it was made in the image of God but does not behave as though it is, quite the contrary

It is even cruel to its own self - consider all the horrors of war (war being an integral part of its social organisation)

And it wants to spread its nonsense throughout the galaxy, that is its long-term aim

Message to extra-terrestrials: Keep away! We are bad news!

But good news for you - we will most likely destroy ourselves before we can threaten you!

Also: Fermi Paradox = Explained. We are an evil species. They want nothing to do with us.

I believe Jesus will save many humans but that humankind will eventually cease to exist. Perhaps he will save humans from humankind????

This kind of makes sense from a Christian point of view: Humankind is fallen but humankind will be restored. Eventually!

Humans have declared the earth to be its property because there's no-one to challenge them.
Humans do what any other species will do if it gains the ascendancy - alter its environment to suit itself.
Not sure how we are going to destroy ourselves - we are much too smart for that.
And all animals fight, some, like dolphins and chimps, will go to war.

I believe people are basically good because we were created in the image of God and God is good so we were created good. But through wrong education we can learn bad things such as prejudice and hate. It depends a lot on our education.

@Quintessence

I have decided to stop moaning about how bad things are and to focus instead on the goodness that exists in this world and the good people who inhabit it

I think this is healthier and a better use of time

However, I want to improve it by removing structures and systems that are most decidedly evil

These systems and structures needn't define our species!

It is up to individual humans to combine and change the moral nature of their civilisation

We must systematically defy evil

There can be good and bad in us all; in our thoughts and in our actions. Someone such as Hitler instigated the murder of millions, but it was carried out by "normal" people.

I believe that though individual humans can display great positive values, as seen through the eyes of other species Eddi is more right than wrong. Here's an old fable that sums it up.

At the end of the world, God summoned representatives of every species to be judged. The turn of humans came. God said that in his opinion we didn't have much to commend us, but he would spare the human race if two other species would stand up for them. The human looked hopefully at the dog, who thought about the good meals and warm homes some of his species had enjoyed, but also the beatings, being chained outside in all weathers, being forced to fight for human entertainment and medical experimentation, and he remained silent. The human turned to the horse, who thought about warm stables and good food, but also about being forced to carry humans around and drag heavy loads and being killed when age or disability made them no longer of use. He also turned away. And thus it went with all the species that the human had hoped might vote for him.

But in the end, humanity was saved, because two species did vote for them. They were the flea and the head louse.
