Another South American failed socialist state. But what I am worried about is hordes of them now trying to flood into Capitalist America. I don't think they would assimilate but try to turn us (viz America) into them (dupes of fascism and communism and socialism). Let's get that wall up.

Quote:

"Ramón Muchacho, Mayor of Chacao in Caracas, said the streets of the capital of Venezuela are filled with people killing animals for food."

"Supermarkets are registered into a system in such a way that they are not permitted to sell Venezuelans food 15 days since their purchase of the same product. As a result, long food lines have formed all over the country, with many people reselling their share to earn an 'extra income.'"

Socialism sucks.

Can you imagine those here who are already losing benefits to invading hordes be told they now have to eat their pet dog?

This is what happens when you put in place socialism that is paid for exclusively by one commodity and that commodities price tanks. But yes, socialism sucks. So does capitalism. So far as I have gathered, the most stable system in history was the monarchy system used by the Pharaohs. Worked for thousands of years. The only thing that comes close is the Chinese dynastic tradition. Oppressive Tyranny in 2020!

I am a problem solver.

No.

It is a continuation of an order that dates back to 1958. Bush signed one, Clinton, Bush Sr, Reagan...

What worries me is that he signed this when there is a chance that Trump will be the next president. That is fargin scary.

And a one-commodity economy would and has had the same effect as well.

Is that why China has had the highest sustained GDP growth over the last two decades? Is that why most of the Scandinavian countries now have a somewhat higher standard of living than the U.S.?

Generally speaking, I much prefer that socialism and capitalism be mixed in with a democratic political system in a manner more conducive to each countries economic and social conditions. IOW, no one-size-fits-all approach.

You do realize that China has been known to fudge a little on the books and stats, right?

No, no, no.
Socialism works well.
So say people who support socialism.......& live within a capitalist system.

Hmmm....perhaps there's a problem.
Socialism looks great to so many who imagine how great it is.
But they don't have to endure the reality of it.
They're keen on noticing shortcomings of the capitalism which affords them this freedom.
They say it'll be great, if only people become better, & properly institute it.
The real world examples (all disasters) are no indicator.

China isn't socialist, their economy is doing badly and they're in a lot of debt.

As for Venezuela, I wouldn't gloat too much about it because the entire global economy is teetering on the edge. America is heading for a collapse, too, and it ain't because of "socialism".

They are high. It's a no brainer. You pay more in taxes and get more from the government. The question isn't whether they are higher, it's how much higher relative to what we pay.

In other words if you add up our cost for insurance, taxes and college (and whatever other benefits they get for free) and compare them to their taxes, which is lower. That is the only thing I care about. The numbers I have seen show that we pay much more all told.

All disasters? Seriously?

We are looking at a country with mountains of debt, legions of people not properly taken care of, people over worked and under paid, vast gulfs between the rich and the poor, and you want to tell me that a country like Sweden or Norway is an abject failure because their taxes are too high?

Besides which, socialism as a national way of life is a misnomer anyway. Socialism vs Capitalism is a scale. All of the countries we've talked about are socialist and all are capitalist. It is simply a matter of which markets are socialist and which are capitalist.

When Sweden recovered from dismal growth in the early 1990's by making some fundamental changes, especially with the tax structure, the economic minister was asked what mostly contributed to Sweden's recovery, and he answered in two words: "Higher taxes". The unfortunate reality is that all too many Americans have been brainwashed by those on the right who insist that taxes collected is like throwing money down a hole, never to be seen again. Any even basic understanding of macro-economics should tell them that the money doesn't in reality disappear.

No country today is truly "socialist" nor truly "capitalist", as all have optioned to go into what's called a "mixed economy".

And, yes, as you have stated, China has fallen on some difficult times, which was predicted because their rate of growth simply could not be sustained because the markets have been taking a hit, especially in Europe.

You are correct on all counts above, and I am quite jealous of my cousins that live in Sweden because that country makes the U.S. look like a third-world country, let me tell ya. Not only do the people have "cradle to grave" protection, they also have heavily invested in their infrastructure that makes us look like we're barely scrambling out of the stone age. When we look at the U.S. rate of growth, which has indeed been increasing, we have to remember that those figures are pretty distorted because so much of that growth is going to the top 1%, which is why average Joe & Mary Citizen here are not happy campers because they ain't seeing it in their pockets.
