How about Trump's intending to pardon those that attacked the Capitol on January 6th?
I don't like pardons regardless of which president may do it, although in some rare cases I can see clemency being used instead.

I was on the fence about that thinking it was mostly a campaign ploy but now I believe he will pardon some, but not all.
Just a plain commuting of the sentence, keep the conviction lower the punishment.

Either way, it still would be picking & choosing. After all, they were convicted by a jury of peer in court.
