I am sick with rage.

Really? That is very interesting indeed...I wonder why?
Because it's illegal to perform any medical procedure if you're not qualified and licensed. Otherwise any idiot with a scalpel could charge people $50 to cut off their hemmorhoids or something.

Listen you guys--obviously, this guy is not talking about first or early second trimester miscarriages, which can occur before the woman even knows she's pregnant in some cases.
Actually that isn't obvious at all, particularly the way his bill and existing state law are worderd.

Lightkeeper said:
Miscarriages only need to be reported to the authorities when there is an actual body.
There is always an actual body, but depending when it occurs there is variation on how big it is and how human it looks.

Are you all saying that you do not agree with the reasons for this bill that are provided in the letter?
I agree with the reasons provided in the letter, but I do not think those are the real reasons for the bill.

Lightkeeper said:
Do you not think that the body needs to be properly disposed of?
It depends.

Lightkeeper said:
Do you not think that there is foul play in some cases which calls for an examination by a coroner?
Yes, but only in the ninth month of pregnancy, never in the first eight. The bill doesn't differentiate between a baby born alive or stillborn and miscarriage of an unviable fetus, or even an embryo.

On what?

Babies are capable of surviving outside of the womb at about 26 weeks along, which is in the second trimester, (about 6 months). There is a recognizable body well before then, not to mention on or after that date. A coroner would need to examine this body for foul play.

I haven't replied to this one yet, because I was trying to think carefully about what I was going to say. I am mentally slow - you can hear the wheels grind!

I don't blame you for being 'sick with rage', but being 'sick with rage' depletes your energy, doesn't get you anywhere; perhaps another approach is to campain against the proposal. It's normal to have an emotional 'Jerk' response, but that won't achieve anything.

I do feel for you - don't misunderstand me; I just hope this gives you a different perspective

It does, but honestly there's not much I can do from Georgia. I can't exactly call the members of the house that support this up and tell them to shove it, since they don't have to worry about me re-electing them.

If anyone does have any suggestions on what I can do, I'd be thrilled to hear them. I want to do something, but I don't know what I can do.

Support the ACLU, for one thing. Sometimes I think they're the only bastion between us and the insanity of politicians. Even when they take positions that I would prefer they didn't.

One of the things you can do is exactly what you have done - disemninate the information. I am a resident of Virginia and I learned of this bill and this legislator through you. I did respond to my state representatives (the text of which I posted).

I may be a minority voter in this state but because of you I will have more weight as an activist. Keep up the good work.

I can not believe the insensitivity displayed by this proposal. I can not believe this intrusion into such a private matter would become part of criminal law.

How, pray tell, is a woman to know with certainy that an spontaneous abortion takes place proir to the first or second missed menses. The bill leaves a lot to be desired in intelligent crafting.

I ask that you do not support this bill in any fashion.
Good for you, pah.

Only with immediate hospitalization and intense medical treatment. I don't know the stats on how many abandoned babies are three months premature but it's gotta be pretty small.

Anyway, the bill doesn't say after 26 weeks - it says right away.
