I believe the Bible should be accepted as true because . . . .

Funny that no one has said this:

"The Bible, dear friend, should be accepted as is true because it is true ."

Makes me wonder...
I thought Thana was very close when she said (post 7), "The Bible, Dear friend, Should be accepted as true only if you believe it is true."

... because Jesus was really a time lord from Galifrey, saving us from the evil "demonoids" from outer space, and we should be so grateful to what he did so we should just accept his book carte blanche.

And it wasn't my intention to "debunk" his belief, only to say that it's mistaken.

Just where is this rule written? And in any case, I'll decide for myself what basis for validation is appropriate. Not that of someone who has a dog in the fight.

Ouch. You really don't know much about the BB and abiogenesis do you. Even though you're wedded to the Bible's mythology, I do advise you to bone up a bit on the opposition before speaking about it, lest you keep looking like a fool.

Hmmm. reading comprehension is NOT your strong suit is it.

And to say "its mistaken" doesn't have the same connotation of "debunking"??

Try looking at your "signature". The controversy is between the Scriptures of the Creator GOD and yourself.

The BB and abiogenesis are as I stated briefly. I am satisfied with the truth of the Scriptures which you believe are myths. It is those Scriptures that say, "The fool has said in his heart, there is no GOD".

I comprehended your OP and convincing the "non-believer" very well.

well...first of all, I am a Christian because I experienced God and I've understood who Jesus, Mary are. So I already know what Christianity is, and I don't need any Bible to know it.

That is not the only source of information for that. Why did you accept the bible instead of the Quraan for that ?

Exactly why should anyone accept the Bible as being true? Looked at coldly it's an ancient book written over a period of 1,600 of years, and then assembled in various manners. Sometimes this was done according to a set of rules for inclusion, sometimes by the decree of church authorities, and sometimes by vote. Of course, it's been contended that all of these actions were guided by the god mentioned in these "books," which is fine, but hardly carries any weight with the non-believer who still has to be convinced that such a being actually exists.

However, I doubt these elements entered your mind when you decided the Bible was true, so how did this come about? Was it that the message of Christian salvation was so appealing that its source, the Bible, just had to be true? Or was it the appeal of the Bible's writings themselves that convinced you of its truth?

In any case, what is your argument to the non-believer that the Bible should be accepted as true?

I'm going to take a stab at this. When I accepted Jesus I accepted the Bible as true because the Bible was the book associated with Jesus and the Christian religion. I considered it a package deal. I was taught it was the inerrant word of God and I just went along with that. Later I heard arguments about fulfilled prophecies and internal consistency despite numerous authors, etc. I bought into those.

Much later I got exposed to higher criticism and learned there were many internal inconsistencies in the Bible. There were also many moral quandaries I could not resolve. So I stopped believing in its inerrancy and infallibility. So I no longer believe the Bible is true in the sense of inerrant historical fact or even as infallible source of moral guidance.

But I do still believe the bible contains Truth both in the historically factual sense as well as in the spiritual realm.

Because I believe that Jesus is God, as the Gospel of John says. In the Qur'an there is no such thing

Hay, it was because of the Bible that you learned and believed in the first place as you last answer revealed.

One-answer, the OT and NT constitutes the Bible. It is the Bible that was utilized and corrupted/compiled by the writer of/in the Quran,

Nazz, did Eve's exposure by the serpent to "higher criticism and learning" lead to Truth and peace or Chaos/death?? Is there any inconsistencies in the plan for the salvation of mankind?---No! Those are the machinations of unbelieving mankind.

That depends upon whether your belief is correct or the "Because" is so.

[QUOTE="Sapiens, post: 4032458, member: 54271" I have no "beliefs," I don't believe in them.[/QUOTE]

Sapiens, the red above says you have beliefs. That is your witness.

,

Not at all. I was raised as a Catholic, that's true. But when I turned 19 I became a pagan. But, as I believed in the divinity of man, I wanted a religion that affirmed that man can become divine. And that man and God is the same thing. Voilà: I read the first chapter of John: and I became Christian again

I think it would be a better idea of you let everyone speak for himself.

As for the corruption of the bible, I am sorry that you hold that opinion. Perhaps you should take a deeper look at the bible to see whether it was corrupted or not.

I have no such argument. I am not interested in convincing non-believers that the Bible should be accepted as true.

I'm not even sure what is meant by "true." If what is meant is "literally correct in every detail," even I don't believe it's true, and I'm a rabbi.

In any case, I believe the Bible (the Tanach, at least, since the Christian Scriptures aren't a part of my Bible) is for Jews, not for non-Jews. And why Jews should accept Tanach, and for what reasons, and how it should be used by those who accept it, is a complex series of answers that bear little resemblance to the missionary arguments I have heard from Christians telling me that everyone requires Christianity in order to escape eternal damnation-- concepts entirely foreign to the Jewish worldview.

Eve learned the truth from the serpent. The creator did not like that.
