I don't get anime

The manga was. The anime, despite having a few filler arcs, lasted considerably less and sort of just stops in mid-motion without much of a resolution.

An unfortunately common problem for anime, including some famous ones.
Still, InuYasha has 167 episodes compared to 64 episodes for Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood.

Porn in Japan seems to be of little concern to anyone. Nor is the challenge of realistic age-related behavior at all exclusive to Naruto, either; even Pokemon is basically the tale of a 10-year older travelling with only a couple of slightly older companions (usually afoot, no less) for what seems to be a few years.

It seems to be part of the point, even.
Regarding the part highlighted in red, I specifically used Naruto as an example for anime in general.

me said:
-Naruto is a big imaginative Shinto world of ninjas and demons and stuff. Lots of characters with detailed stories. This also started like 10 years ago when I was a teenager, so I still read the manga until it ends. A big theme towards the end is Nihilism. It's kind of an example of how anime can mix things that in American media would be totally separate, like the main character will make fart jokes early in the story and then later it includes nihilistic villains, elements of genocide, etc.

I never got into Naruto. primarily because

1. They're not ninjas. No, they're not.
2. After the first three episodes, which are excellent, it goes into about 20 episodes (it seems) of sheer BOREDOM.

Oh, well... at least it has an awesome abridged series. ^_^

Wow threads certainly move fast in the new year! Anyhow, on topic... I think anime is a combination of acquired taste and watching the right ones. Like you, I don't like the over-the-top screaming etc, and as my introduction to anime was Pokemon and DBZ, and whatever else was supplied on afternoon kids TV, I never was interested.now, a few years ago I was introduced to Death Note. I was rather sceptical at first, but the story really Drew me in.it was complex and fast-paced, made me think, and there were no episodes where an entire half hour was devoted to charging some super move. So for me the story its important, and I've found anime to be able to deliver complex stories in ways that often western-made series don't do.

Also, I really dislike filler episodes.

I absolutely loved the Pokemon video games when I was a kid. Pokemon red and blue, ftw.

It's kind of like glorified rooster or dog fighting where the animals don't bleed and generally seem to enjoy what they're doing, though. :sarcastic

I watched the anime a bit when I was young and it kind of added depth and richness (and money!) for their whole Pokemon franchise, but I think the video games were the best content out of it.

Snorlax was my favorite team member in the game :)

EVERYONE does. Half a season of nothing but filler played a large part in killing the Sailor Moon anime(especially after the previous season was so strong).

I actually recently watched several early episodes of Pokemon, and something that I kinda knew about for some time had finally clicked: every freaking episode is the SAME FREAKING STORY!!

Yep.

Ash and crew walk around. Usually they learn something about a new pokemon or battle something and meet a new friend, and then foil Team Rocket's terrible plan and blast them away.

Jessie from Team Rocket was my favorite character though and I was kind of always hoping she'd win something eventually. :(

Twilight Hue

Twilight, not bright nor dark, good nor bad.
Karin was one of my all time faves. English dub!

There was one series( although the title escapes me atm ) that involved a detective who was mentally attached with his bunraku puppet which in turn enabled him to solve various crimes.

It does get to the point where you kinda feel sad for them and actually start rooting for them.

They did have a few victories, didn't they? Particularly against common foes such as Bonnie and Clyde and, IIRC, Mewtwo.

Well yeah I guess it depends on how far one actually watched into the series.

They were mainly just comic relief villains and almost always got embarrassingly defeated, but despite being the antagonists they weren't malevolent so in some episodes they'd go into the back story of James or Jessie, or they'd help out with a worse foe, or something.

Code Geass, Lelouch of the Rebellion is another decent one. It's about an exiled prince trying to taking down his empire.

It has a strong ending.

It's like most media: There are good ones and bad ones. Some people decide to like something just BECAUSE it is anime, which is a bit odd in my opinion, as I don't decide to like something BECAUSE it is a TV show. Some are cool (Death Note, Dokuhime, Vampire Knight, Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood, Soul Eater). But others? They can be "Meh" or just bad. Don't put too much thought into it unless it's a plot you'd like otherwise.
