I just bought my first phone.

Except for the military ties, data harvesting and weird AI crap. But it is the best search engine. Darn.

Just remember to put heavy tape over any webcam, front/face cam, and microphone when not in use o_O :p :D

If it wasn't for smartphones I'd hardly ever been on here...even though I agree with a lot of sentiments on how crazy things have gone with them. It's not just them but any computer really, or general tunnel vision for an electronic screen.

What a coincidence!
I just got a new phone yesterday.
It's a bigger Apple...a 6something.
I had my son pick out something to make dealing with text messages easier.
(I have big fat uncoordinated fingers.)

I threw mine away about 5 years ago, I hated what it did to people, sitting all around with their noses stuck in their phone and not even having a conversation with each other, of course I'm talking about the stupid mobile phones.

Why not just turn it off when you're with people? Don't get me wrong, I find it rude when you're talking to someone and they are checking their phone every minute, but throwing it away seems a bit extreme.

These days I used my phone for everything. I don't need a separate GPS because it's on my phone. I couldn't find a building for a job interview a few years ago and if I hadn't had my phone I would have been late. (didn't get the job anyway, d'oh!) My mother lives in Florida (I'm in Massachusetts) and I don't get to see her much, but we play Words With Freinds (it's like virtual scrabble...download the app it's fun) together on our phones and it's a nice connection from long distance other than just a phone call. I have Slingbox and the app for my phone, so on a plane I can watch my home TV, and I have the Sirius Radio app so I can listen to satellite radio on the go. Plug it into a stereo and my satellite radio is portable anywhere...life of the party, me. I can get all my various e-mails on my phone so I don't have to remember to check my home e-mail or risk not responding to people. My bank has an app where I can take a picture of a check and deposit it into my checking account without ever having to go to the bank or an ATM...that one is particularly helpful as I have a side buisiness where I'm constantly getting personal checks. I get my sports scores, news, weather, and of course I can take pictures and video anywhere I go which is great for capturing unexpected moments with the family.

The bad behavior is controllable. I don't even think about taking out my phone when I'm out at dinner with people, or having a conversation. At work, it's off and away, diito at the movies or pretty much any other social event.

You can have all the wonderful conveniences of a smart phone and still be a polite, thoughtful person with manners.

Na, it sound too zombie lol.
I jail break pretty much every electronic device once I get it (including video game consoles). One of the perks is it allows you to delete all the "undeletable" preinstalled programs. It even allowed me to turn my Nook into a tablet that functions like a normal Android tablet.
Yea, I like the PC better, if something happens its much easier to fix or add whatever to it, than a laptop, I'm due for a new computer soon so I'll get windows 10 then, thanks for the info though.
But, if you want a really good OS that is stable, secure, and one you are unlikely to have any problems with, switch to Linux! (it's also free)

I rather prefer people who afford all their attention to mobile phones.
It's a relatively new way of conversation, one of which the older generations are left behind in.
If you want to converse with someone who enjoys their phone, text them.

Talking isn't a requirement. And people being quiet is a preference of mine.
I work in a library after all :D .

Also, they aren't at all like zombies, imo.
They may pay loads of attention to their devices, but they are mostly interactive and vocal on the internet.
It's not like they're sitting on the couch playing candy crush all day everyday.
Staring emotionless into a bright screen without ever blinking or bothering to eat.

For work, recreation, and knowledge purposes.
That's sad to me.

Can't brain. Has dumb.

It is a bit..

Phones these days are great. You can do almost anything with them! But I much prefer to converse face to face than via txt, or even calling. Txt is so... Impersonal, and.. Distant. So little is actually conveyed in txt - you miss out on body language, voice tone, stresses on words. It's very easy indeed to misinterpret messages, compared to even a voice call. Communication is far more than only words, and txt messages are so stripped back, that I find them useful only for finding out things e.g. "what time will you be here?" "can you please pick up some milk on your way home?"

Beyond that, no thanks. I thoroughly dislike txt conversations. Wanna talk with me? Call, or better yet, come visit.

Yea your right, and that is a very intelligent way of using it, but still I like doing all that at home on my PC, I reads a lot when I'm out by myself, usually at a coffee shop.

I've never had a phone of my own. For the past few years, I've been using my mom's government phone which is crappy and doesn't even have voicemail. I shouldn't complain, though, because it's free (except for the minutes you buy besides what they give you).

Anyway, it's a prepaid Microsoft Lumia and it's pretty cool for the price. So exciting. :D

I use mine to test pictures of my junk to my wife. She pretends she hates it when they pop up at work.
