If Jesus was God, explain this verse...

Aamer

Matthew 4:1 Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil.

If Jesus was God, why was he tempted by the Devil? Can God be tempted by the Devil, his own creation?

Granted, he passed the test. But if he was God... Why was there a test in the first place? Does God need to test himself?

Are God and Jesus really one in the same? Please answer logically how this is possible given the verse above.

You could argue the same thing about getting hungry, needing to sleep, needing to go to the bathroom, etc. But if God becomes human, than God as a human, like any human, would be human in every respect.

"For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin." ~Hebrews 4:15 The "why" would be to show others it is possible to overcome sin.

Are God and Jesus really one in the same? Please answer logically how this is possible given the verse above.
One in the same, in what ways? Made of the same material bits? How logical is it to expect spirit and flesh to be "one and the same"?

All valid questions. Obviously, Jesus is not God. The Bible states at James 1:13; "When under trial, let no one say: “I am being tried by God.” For with evil things God cannot be tried nor does he himself try anyone." I believe as Acts 10:38 says, that God was with Jesus. Jesus wasn't God.

I agree. People read scriptures with one of two intentions.

1) To seek the truth.

2) To make the scripture fit whatever it is they have already decided they WANT to be the truth.

When Jesus was "incarnated" as a human being, it was not merely a costume, hence he experienced being put to test, just like us, the mankind. The only difference is, he did not fall for it. He did not just make a mascot and say "Hey, I'm God hiding in this flesh." He experienced what we have experienced. He weeped, felt pain/transgressions, etc,etc... He shared everything that we, in our human nature has experienced, except through sin, hence we have no excuses whenever we fall into a temptation.

Can you quote the verse from your scripture that states all this?

Both Windwalker and Renji have supplied good answers. Can you live with their explanations?

You asked "Please answer logically how this is possible". I provided a logical answer. Now you want a scriptural verse? But you just said people can make scripture say whatever they want it to. How would this suffice as you too read it as you need to?

I think that if God was the person of Jesus and God was in heaven when Jesus was here, then God is two and not one.

Jesus is a subject of TIME. If Jesus equals God then God is also a subject of time. If God is a subject of time then time is greater than God. If time is greater than God time is god. Is time god?

Jesus in the human form of God. Jesus ate, slept, suffered, and died.

P.S. John 1. The Logos is timeless and eternal. The Logos became flesh. The flesh is subject to time.

I wont get into the whole Jesus was/not God argument because, either you believe or you do not, and pretty much nothing can change that.

BUT if you do believe it then its easy to explain. Jesus was allowed to be tempted to show that God (as Jesus) would not put his people (all 12 tribes) through temptation and not be tempted himself.

If you work a manual labor job you understand. Which boss do you respect more. The boss that sits in the AC office on a soft comfy chair on the phone looking for a replacement when someone is sick/quits. Or the boss that gets out there and digs the ditch right beside you even if only for a day or two. Ill take the boss that is willing to get his hands dirty and knows first hand what his workers go through on a daily basis.

Of course this is just my personal opinion. Not going to back it up with scripture. That is just how I feel about it.

BTW, if God is all-powerful, how is it impossible for God to become human? Logically, isn't that limiting God?

God sets limits upon himself according to his will. Thus, it is impossible for God to lie. (Hebrews 6:18) This in no way diminishes his position as Sovereign ruler and Almighty God. The scriptures clearly teach that Jesus was God's Son, not "god the son". (John3:16)

Your assertion that the Logos is timeless and eternal is based on what scriptural authority?

You're conveniently forgetting that Jesus, while being fully God, was also fully human. And part of being human is being subject to temptation.
