If you believe in a god or don't believe in a god.....

If you believe in a god or don't believe in a god.....

What is your number one reason, the main reason, for doing either?(one or the other)

The main reason is a complete lack of use for that belief.

A significant second is the evidence of how bad the results of that belief tend to be.

There are so-called gods that I find interesting and worth of respect. But definitely not out of any "true existence" of theirs.

Probably, the sum total of human history (and of all other life) - the bits that we have uncovered, that is - and as to which no God is necessary in my view as being the best explanation. Of course I don't know how life started as for all others too unless with an explanation that they themselves believe, but I can accept that we still have much to learn, and once life did start then all the rest seems to fall into line as to what has happened. And even here we have much to learn too.

Lack of evidence for and considerable evidence against are probably equal #1

Trusting in the possibility of God as I choose to perceive it, works. It increases the value of my experience of living. And it increases my contribution to the value of other people's experience of living.

I'm not looking for evidence. I'm looking for effective results.

Would something that impacts one's morals, ethics, and behavior be evidence of the existence of that something?
How does religion impact my ethics?
I've never flown a plane into a building, or harassed a woman at a family planning clinic, or got upset by LBGT people, etc., etc.,
I believe my moral standards are as high as most religious people and higher than most.

I must admit though I do break quite a few of the Ten Commandments...
  • I do have other 'gods' - usually footballers, rock stars and the like.
  • I love craven images and wear them on t-shirts
  • I have been known to take god's name in vain, usually when I cry, "Oh Jesus" when i stub my toes
  • I don't keep the Sabbath holy. usually go to the pub.
  • I do covert my neighbors' things, especially their mew camera.

Fascinating. Neither have I.

My religion has no commandments.

This said, your response doesn't remotely address the question I asked.
