If you believe in reincarnation...

Where do all of the new souls come from?

As the population of the Earth grows and each new body needs a soul, how does that work?
Are there a finite number of souls?
Are new souls created to supply the extra bodies?
Do souls divide like cells to become two new souls?
Will we ever run out?

Why do you assume that if one believes in reincarnation that they believe in individual souls?

What I assume is that not everyone believes the same as you.

अयम् आत्मा ब्रह्म - Ayam atma Brahma - This Atman is Brahman.

Multiplicity is an illusion resulting from Maya.

So then, there is only me and everyone else is an illusion?

If all is Brahma what is the point of reincarnation again?

I've wondered about this myself on occasion. For perspective, I've looked up how many people have actually lived on the Earth:

Calculating the number of people who have ever lived is part science and part art. No demographic data exist for more than 99% of the span of human existence. Still, with some assumptions about population size throughout human history, we can get a rough idea of this number: About 117 billion members of our species have ever been born on Earth.

Admittedly a rough estimate, but 117 billion seems good enough. Of course, I can't say whether this represents 117 billion separate souls, or if some of these might be repeats. Or it could be there are no souls at all.

With 8 billion people currently alive, I wonder where the other 109 billion souls might be. Are they in some kind of holding pattern waiting to be born again?

I believe in reincarnation differently from hindus for example. As for Buddhists, I'm not quite clear on their take of reincarnation. Hindus teach that your soul is compelled to randomly reincarnate due to karma in your past life until you achieve the Moksha state by constantly meditating on Lord Krishna. Where I diverge from there is that I believe you have a choice in the matter after your very first incarnation.

Where do all of the new souls come from?
They come from God Consciousness. Your soul evolves with each earthly experience you have.

As the population of the Earth grows and each new body needs a soul, how does that work?
Population size doesn't matter. Each new earthly life is first dependent on what the soul wants to experience on the earth. Then the earthly life sprouts to accomodate the particular soul's experience. The body is the soul's host. It's all predetermined.

Are there a finite number of souls?
No, there are an infinite amount because God Consciousness can produce them plus all of the souls that have already existed and evolved through many reincarnations on the earth.

Are new souls created to supply the extra bodies?
That depends. If no already existing souls want to partake in a particular experience which is reliant on this specific body, then a new soul is created to fulfill the role. This is the first and only time, in my opinion, that a soul is compelled to randomly incarnate into any life.

Do souls divide like cells to become two new souls?
No. God consciousness can create a mass influx of souls faster than that if He wanted to.

Will we ever run out?
The only thing we will run out of is space on the earth for human life eventually.

Hope this helps.

Ocrap. I’ve been doing it wrong.

I’m always thankful there are non-Hindus around the forum to tell us what we Hindus teach or do.

There are many different Hindu sects that teach many different things about this. This example I presented seemed to be the simplest one from the teaching of the Bhagavad Gita when Arjuna had his conversation with Krishna/Vishnu. You're welcome.

Reincarnation is another "late arriving belief" tossed upon people for control. According to the late Professor Leopold Fischer:

In its present form, the way people talk about it today, it is quite
old, but it's not as old as people hope it would be. You have only a
vestigial or marginal mention of something like transmigration in the older
sections of the Veda. There is the first complete mention, though very
brief, in the Brihadaranyaka Upanishad, which is quite old. But the real
assumptions having to do with reincarnation come in the Puranic age, at
the time that the Puranas were composed, and then of course, through
Buddhism. So you might say that it reached a state of common acceptance,
I would think, around 300 B.C., but not earlier. So it is old, but in its
highly articulated form it is not so old — and the way it's talked about
now, that's recent; that's "Theosophical Society."
.......

What was in the "earlier" text?
Brihadaranyaka Upanishad:
"Upon reaching the moon, they become food. There the gods enjoy them,
just as the priests enjoy the drink of Soma watching the moon wax and
wane. When that ends they enter into space, from space into air, from air
into rain, from rain into the earth. Then they are again offered in the fire of
man, and from there into the fire of a woman so that they can go again to
the other worlds. Thus, they keep rotating."
......

If reincarnation was correct, it would have been talked about when writing began ... but ... nothing.

So, what about alleged memories of past lives? This could be anything from endogenous DMT to paranormal intrusions. There IS a "spiritual" world ... and just TONS of attempted "explanations."

Please quote the verse(s) in the Bhagavad Gita that teach that the path to moksha is “constantly meditating on Lord Krishna”.

From my Hindu POV, Siva is constantly emanating new souls.

The entirety of Bhagavad Gita chapter 8 says all of what I said. Read Bhagavad Gita 8.7-8.8 as an example.

8.7
"Therefore, always remember Me and also do your duty of fighting the war. With mind and intellect surrendered to Me, you will definitely attain Me; of this, there is no doubt."

8.8
"With practice, O Parth, when you constantly engage the mind in remembering Me, the Supreme Divine Personality, without deviating, you will certainly attain Me."

You are absolutely welcome!

Interesting that neither verse mentioned meditation or moksha.

What about chapter 3 that teaches the path of karma yoga, or chapter 4 that teaches the path of jnana yoga?

Also, mediation is primarily discussed by Krishna in chapter 6, so you might want to read that one in your quest to show me up. ;)

What do you think this means?

when you constantly engage the mind in remembering Me
Look up the definition of Meditate.

Krishna is the Supreme Being who can pull you out of the cycle of reincarnation after death.

8.13
"One who departs from the body while remembering Me, the Supreme Personality, and chanting the syllable Om, will attain the supreme goal."

8.15
"Having attained Me, the great souls are no more subject to rebirth in this world, which is transient and full of misery, because they have attained the highest perfection."

I encourage you to read the Bhagavad Gita.
