Nearly a dozen people on Thursday were treated for heat-related symptoms while waiting for Donald Trump's rally in Phoenix, Arizona, an event marking the former president's first visit to the battleground state since late 2022 and his return to the campaign trail after getting convicted of 34 felonies in New York City.

The town hall event, hosted by conservative group Turning Point USA, was scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. MST at Dream City Church in north Phoenix. According to local reports, lines of Trump supporters began gathering outside the venue several hours beforehand. The Arizona Republic reported that temperatures soared to 96 degrees by 10 a.m. and that one woman collapsed while standing in line just minutes before the doors opened.

I wonder when Republicans are going to start taking climate change seriously. Probably never as long as the oil companies keep giving them billions of dollars.

And Donald's answer is Drill baby Drill, it will reduce inflation. Of course then you will be uninsured the next time your house in Florida floods because either no-one would insure it or you couldn't afford the insurance, but inflation would be lower. Yeh
This ain't politics, this is becoming existential.

Well it's 110°F (43°C) up in Phoenix, so that's about normal for this time of year.

Um. Phoenix is a desert state.

Deserts are typically hot and arid.

People get heat exhaustion and other heat related aliments. Some die even.

It's always been that way since I can remember down there.

Move on.

How long do we have to wait for you to agree that there is a problem with global temperatures?
Like I said in the past. When people actually see the fire for themselves in their own back yard.

Climates always fluctuate and change.

That's the way it works.

No, it is not normal, it is just not a record, which is 113, normal is 102, but it is also the beginning of a hot streak for the whole southwest.l

June is always the hottest month in this state. It's hot. You get used to it after a few years of living here. I remember when it got up around 116° or 117° one afternoon, I went into QT and got a piping hot cup of coffee. The lady at the counter just looked at me and said "Are you insane?"

I do that too. I'd drink a good coffee in 117° heat anytime.

Yup back when I lived in Las Vegas I'd eat soup in 110+ degree weather.

And what is it going to take to see what is in front of your face and stop putting off any decision-making.
Like you said in the past, LOL wait till it is undeniable is all you say.
Never mind, I won't even attempt to explain why the current fluctuation is not like anything in the past.

I have seen that. Way back when I had my furniture store a lady whose husband had been moved to Singapore came in. It was at least one of the hottest days of the year in my unairconditioned store. I would have back and front doors open to make aa breezeway. She had a light sweater on. Now this is the Puget Sound area where people complain if it gets above eighty. I once heard a guy complain on a beautiful day when it was 72. We do get used to the temperatures that we live in. I do not know if I could go back to Minnesota with its four real seasons and 120 degree temperature range from hottest summer day to coldest winter day. Here the range is about 70 degrees across the year.

Kathryn

It was on fire when I laid down on it.
Meanwhile it's 76 degrees here in SW Ohio. At 7 pm at night. I love it. It's about 92 degrees in Texas where I moved from.

yes and July is here, but that is not the point. 110 with multiple expected days is not normal at least yet. If you are lucky you will avoid your "Phoenix's" 54 consecutive days over 100 last year and 650 or so deaths. Look at the historical trends and tell me it is "normal".
But I think you understand this and are just saying it is a hot day this early but.

It varies from year to year. I've lived in the southwest for more than 40 years. There may be degrees of difference, but the first 100°+ day is usually in May or June. One year it got to 100 in March. But we used to get more rain, too, so that's what's abnormal - more so than high temperatures. Also, when the hot weather is still going on in late October and November - that also seems abnormal.

But a hot day in June? Even if it's a little hotter than average, it's still par for the course for this time of year.
