If You Had the Power Of God...

Vasilisa Jade

I would make fleas and ticks disappear off the face of the earth. Then I would do something ungodly and cool.

If you had the power of God... what would you do?

And because I can exhibit a mediocum of foresight before I put up a topic, for anyone who wants to ask what God is capable of doing, God can do anything you believe God can do.

Power corrupts, so I would have to say that I, or any other human would ultimately use the power for selfish gains, justified by lies that we all tell ourselves to make us feal comfortable with the things we have done. I believe it to be in our nature...

Abolish birth and (permanent) death*. Resurrect every single human being who ever was, and spread the entire race across the stars (with portals that allow instantaneous travel between worlds). dispense karmic justice for every instance innocents are/were ever victimized. <---...snip....---> But other than that I would try to keep my intervention and interaction at a minimum and allow the human race it's autonomy and self-sovereignty.

*People could still be wounded or killed, but eventually regenerate and resurrect. There would still be pain, but less intense. Unpleasant but not traumatic.
:sarcastic Contradictions anyone? (the snipped stuff, I actually agree with ;) ).

I would also take the stand-off approach. But I would limit intervention into such things as make sure that a huge asteroid doesn't cause an E.L.E., etc... However, I might just shrink such an asteroid so that it would blast life away for a few hundred mile radius. That way humanity would get a little wake-up call to improve their technology, transglobal communication systems, etc...

I would hope to avoid horrific corruption, but after one or two hundred years I might tend toward the ....ummmmm......hedonistic. ;)
"Power corrupts." <--- that is a true statement. But that applies to humans, who gain money and power, exploit others, take bribes, etc... in order to gain even more money, fame, and power. However, if you already have the kingdom, the power, and the glory. Then who is going to bribe you? What would they bribe you with? Who would you need to exploit, when you can create whatever your heart desires? Sure, I might go all fire-n-brimstone on some child molesters and murderers, but hey! Who wouldn't?

P.S. - With God powers, you quickly find many millions of other civilizations among the stars....some with starfaring technology.
What do you do?
What do you do if such a starfaring civ is heading for Earth? with peaceful intentions? with warfare in mind?

Having the power of God would be pretty dangerous in the hands of a person who did not also have God's wisdom. Since I don't, I'm not really sure I know what I'd do if I had His power. It's kind of scary to think of actually!

Looking at current the state of the world, it appears the average human has more wisdom then "God" and probably would do a much better job with His power then He currently is doing.

First thing I'd do, is delete all them, "Final Antichrist" and "another proof of God" threads.

Then after that, I'd stop time (excluding myself, of course), that way I'd have all the time I needed to plan what my next move should be.

This is starting to sound like sim city...

And what do people usually do in Sim city?

They build a great big thriving city, perfecting every little detail until it is beaming with life. Then at the very zenith of its potential, they burn it to the ground. Wreaking havoc everywhere, until everything is in ash and very few or no one is left alive. Or they walk away and let the city run by itself and this results in an unchecked fire destroying everything. Then out of boredom they start over.

You... you're a monster!

Suddenly having all the power(s) of "God" at my disposal would necessarily require an alteration of consciousness and perception such that I was no longer human. But for sake of argument I will suppose that that "tiny" little problem was voided and I remain fundamentally myself.

My answer would depend upon the answer to one question and one question only (presumably I would immediately know the answer to this as I now wield all the power(s) of "God"): Am I responsible for "maintenance" of the cosmos?

If the answer is yes, then I will do whatever "maintenance" is necessary to ensure that the cosmos continues to run according to whatever design principles it has in place. In the event that the answer is no, then my first reaction is to see if I can remove all these new found powers from myself permanently. Assuming that is impossible, then I find out if I can ban myself from using the powers. If all else fails I "simply" refuse to use any of the abilities and "quietly retire" to some pocket dimension of my own devising and allow the rest of reality to do its thing.

 Sure, sure. But what exactly would you DO in your retirement dimensional pocket for at least the next .....Trillion years or so?
(assuming your God-powers also prevent you from going insane.)

It's not enough these days to have the power of god -- it must be clean energy, too.
