Recently we had a severe thunderstorm. Lightning, thunder and wind. It actually woke me up before Fajr time(early morning time for prayer) and had to close my windows and rain was just gushing in. I opened the door and lightning almost felt like it was on its way in. Was really scary to see, the doors blew open and had to force them shut. Very rare occurrence.

Imagine if it snowed. (We were there in early December. On the way to Mauritius, we had to overnight in a hotel with a 72 hour Visa, but on the way home it was 3 hours in the airport.)

So it can get so different that you can't understand it? (That does happen in English as well.)

yes :) they use different word usages...I am a primary school teacher and I have had students from all over the world. I have met parents and can see the difference in wordings. I had a teacher's aid and she was Egyptian. She told the children how to sit down and I had no idea what she was meaning lol I had to learn a few new words lol

Actually it does snow in the northern emirates like Ras Al Khaimah...it is more rocky terrain and have claimed it has snowed a few times.

Mauritius forgive my geography, but is that off of France?

I taught elementary for 30 years. Nothing below 4th Grade though, and as high as Grade 9, but very little of that. I often had split classes lie 5/6.

Does UAE have corporal punishment in schools?

8 hours straight south of you. About 26 from here (Canada). It was 1 hour to Vancouver, 17 hours to Dubai, then 8 more to Mauritius.) I liked Emirates Airlines. The flight attendants were very professional, yet casual in some ways.

Good to know. What is your class size this year? What's the average class size? In UAE, is there gender segregation in schools. If so, at what Grade does it start? Here there is none, but in Mauritius it started at 7th grade, and continues through high school, but in university it was mixed.

I could have a ton of education questions.

I now detest long flights. It wrecks your guts for a few weeks. No moving, and like 4 meals that you eat cause you're bored, not because you're hungry.

Each class can hold up to 25 students or less. Yes, there is gender segregation in schools mainly the governmental schools (hakuma) and some private schools. Primary students usually start to segregate around the 6th grade up some start earlier-just depends on the school. In the universities here, they are mixed as well. But you do have technical schools for male and female, but even some of those classes are mixed. Right now we are on distant learning. After every holiday, they put us on DL for straight two weeks. It's understandable with all the sicknesses goin on.

Sounds similar to here, although I did have as many as 35 students some years. Is there an international school (or more than one) in Dubai? Do any local kids go there?

How costly are the private schools? Do you work in government or private? Are you a generalist (teaching all subjects to same group) or a specialist (teaching one subject). Which grade do you teach? Which grade do you prefer to teach?

Generally, is the style of teaching geared to rote memorisation, or to critical thinking/problem solving?
Are your students in groups, or in rows? Is there lots of student interaction, or is it mostly teacher telling?

Why would you fly to Orlando? You have relatives in the US?

The cost of schooling increases in the private sector as the years go up. There are international schools like American, British Canadian, etc. The governmental schools are free. Primary is what I teach, I don't go above 7th. I love the little kids lol The schools have certain curriculums to follow. The govt has guidelines that we must follow. It entails all subjects. In the Private sector we teach almost all areas. They also must learn in Arabic, the language and the Islamic perspective. In Arabic for the local students and in non-arabic speaking for the non-locals. We encourage oral participation and yes, we try to involve the students as much as possible in the learning processes. Mental maths we have competitions, etc. When the pandemic first started out and the students finally came back to school, we had them in what we call bubbles, each few at a table only. and one class separated into two classrooms. It was a big hassle but doable. Now the students are back in class 4 at a table with a chair in between. They are to keep their masks on the entire day except when they eat.

It is getting late so I need to sleep :) It was nice talking with you and wish you well in your life :) If you have any questions about Islam, please don't hesitate to ask :)

I did. Do you know anything about the differences between the various denomination of Islam? Do you know why some Shia scholars talk about ''distortion'' in the Quran? What does it mean to say that the Quran has an ''inner meaning''?

Okay. Let me answer the way I know it.

Every single so called "denomination" in Islam has one Qur'an. You quoted a Shii scholar and you said that he claims there are distortions in the Qur'an. So if you specifically share what he is speaking about, I could try and explain.

I note, you, nor the OP, answered any of those questions. You only asked ''how do you know that?'' and made no effort to actually answer so far. So do you know anything about those things? It's okay if you don't; just say it and I'll move on to find another source of knowledge.

If you ask specifically, I will respond as best I could. If you look at the Shii Sunni split, it is originally political. And that too is according to tradition.

I answered to that reply by mentionning that whar Sunnah are in the first place changes from denomination so that wasn't really a answer. I am not more informed about that person's background, theological ''lenses'' and potential biases (true neutrality doesn't exist so its important to know about biases to better take them in consideration)

I see it as the same thing than saying ''I am a Bible believing Christian'' which doesn't mean much since the canon of the Bible changes from Orthodox/Catholics from Protestant and that's without going into translations (though I heard that was less of an issue for the Quran).

The Quran has not seen any changes ever. Quran is one book, written by one single person. Not like the Bible which has had maybe 50 different authors and requires a canonisation. So its not the same.

In Islam, the Quran is from Allah. Not man.

Really? Thats brand new information. ;)

I know sis. I know. But this gentleman is an atheist. So I am not promoting Islam in a divine manner to him, I am telling him what it is as a book. And I doubt I said "man". I would have said "person".
