Let us know when you find someone to ask the question to and how long it took. With the present issues with just signing up I think you might have a long wait and my not like the answer you get. Oh, just out of curiosity what is your "out-of-pocket" expenses...the deductible. You did say bronze plane didn't you. I understand it is 60/40 capped at $6350.
I haven't signed up for a plan yet due to the 'tax credit' issue. At my income I should have a tax credit helping cover the majority of the $224 per month or whatever. Once that's resolved, I'll sign up. I'd expect the tax credit to cover nearly 80% of the monthly expense. The credit you receive can be used how you want it. You can apply all of it to your monthly premium, or you can designate a smaller portion of it per month.
I have a private plan with Blue cross in CA right now which runs me a little over $100 per month.

Would you prefer the Blue Cross plan or the Bronze Plan?

I don't know yet. All the exchange is is a bunch of private insurance companies that have re-branded their insurance packages. I talked to the government today and they are going to call me back considering my application that showed the tax credit at $0.
I'm only 37 and don't really care for insurance, but it's something that can be afforded. As far as I can tell, I'd be paying double signing up right now for the cheapest plan. But that's why I think the tax credit figure is wrong and why I'm appealing it's result.

If you make anywhere between $11k-$48k (single) per year, you qualify for a form of tax credit. As I fall in that category, there's no reason mine should show $0.

I'll take a guess that after this is fixed I'll be paying around $50 a month instead of my current $100

Try using Internet Explorer to navigate to the site. When I use Firefox, I can't access it and get a blank screen.
No worries, they'll fix it, no hurry either.

These are before any Tax Credits are applied. Use the following tool to find the tax credit. You should be able to save around 50% or more off these costs.

I'd expect to see premiums for your family of 4 in the following range after the credit.

Bronze = $250 mth
Silver = $375 mth
Gold = $500 mth

So, let see if I have this correct.
You say the Bronze plan will cost around $224 per month
Since your income is between $18K-$48K a year you get a "tax credit". Now from what I understand a "tax credit" is after you determine what your tax obligation is you can deduct your tax credit from that amount and this will determine the tax owed or tax refund. Is this correct?
If this is so,it appears that you think your tax credit will be around $2088 [($224-$50)X12=$2088]. Correct?

Now, I have a question. My income is just above $18000 a year minus $1258.80 for my health care premium. I have also been paying into my health care plan since around 1961. Yet I do not get a "tax credit" does this seem right?

The tax credit for individual filers is based on your income (individual) or family (dependents and income). In your case of you and your spouse, and if you make less than $96k a year, you can expect tax credits automatically that reduce your premium. If you look at the images I provided, you can see the cheapest plans available per each category. Those numbers are before the tax credit available.

I'm still waiting. It should be much calmer by December with plenty of time to get registered to avoid the *gasp* 50 dollar fine from deducted from my taxes.

You did read the above didn't you? I stated under my situation I do not get a tax credit, and I'm asking if you think this is fair.

Why don't you? You make less than 98k a year as a family don't you? You will recieve a tax credit of some kind. Who told you that you don't get a tax credit?

No I will not because my income is Social Security and I am on Medicare Part B. Yet it appears that only those that sign up for ACA get the tax credit. Again I ask you is this fair?

Do you pay for healthcare at all?

You do realize that Medicare Part B is not free don't you?
So to answer your question.
Well, let see I payed FICA taxes which included Medicare taxes starting about 1958 or 59 until I retired in 1997 (was 55) I went on Medicare in 2007 and at the present time I pay $104.90 a month for Medicare part B. So, yeah I guess you could say that I have been paying for health care.
Oh by the way, Medicare Part B only pays 80% of the "allowed" expenses and you pay what ever is not payed by Medicare. That is why there are Medicare Gap insurance policies like AARP offers. Plans start at about $100 a month a go up to around $236.00. So it appears that the least total payment would be around $205.00 a month.
