In need of a cult? I have a doozy for you:

Bridging the Gap Between Believers and Skeptics
These type of religions (almost) make me wish I was full-blown Satanist. A religion that does not allows you to experience life is stopping you from experiencing God candidly. I honestly believe the religions that experience God to the fullest are those that follow the left-handed path, and allow you to decide who you are for yourself rather than someone else doing all the deciding for you.

I am not so sure how long I would last with that particular group.
Can't drink or smoke, but all the other dr7gs are fair game. Can't playbair guitar, but you can kick the guy who runs it in his nuts. Can't play air guitar or Monopoly, but you can play naked coed Twister.

I am pretty sure that naked coed Twister is banned too. Let me go ask Jane:

Hey Jane! . . . Jane!! Can we play naked co... NO!!

I guess is on the banned list too.:(:pensive:

Amd just because it's not yet doesn't mean it is now. It's better to ask forgiveness than ask permission. Except when you have to ask Jane who must be one busy lady with all those nos she added researched and added on.

I think that the word "forgive" is missing from Jane's vocabulary.

I wonder what they have to offer that would make it worth it to people to put up with all these rules.

A lot of their rules are baffling. Like, what's wrong with Hide and Seek?

They went after the weak and vulnerable at the beginning. Ex-drug users can be very loyal members to the cult that gets them off of drugs. They are substituting one addictive behavior for another.

It seems like it would be easier to make a list of what you can do rather than what you can't :D

Some of them are quite funny, like the one with white socks :D

And that you can't play hide and seek.

Not really sure I understand the one with children not allowed to make animal sounds (maybe,,) What does the maybe mean, that they are not really certain whether that is ok or not? :D

But all in all, it does sound like a very healthy environment :p

I intellectually understand that controlling cults have a certain appeal for people who lack something in themselves. But I personally cannot relate to it. The few times in my life that I have been exposed to such groups, my internal alarm goes off that I am in the midst of danger. I am referring to groups where there is a leader who cannot be questioned or disagreed with, and who exerts considerable control over his group. I just have a very active internal warning system that this is a dangerous situation and to get away. So it is kind of hard for me to understand people who, to the contrary, find this appealing.

think that the list is from the claims of quite a few of the exmembers. Rules that they were told to follow at one time or another. They probably do not have a formal list at that church.

I am the same way. I used to own a business and my rent was very low. Largely due to our dependability. Rent was never late or unpaid the whole time that the business was going. Since businesses can go empty for years that sort of tenant is usually well treated. But since my rent was low I did not mind humoring the landlady in ways that I otherwise would not have. She was involved in a multi-level marketing scam. Amway is the classic, and this one followed many of their traits. I was invited to an open house where they were obviously trying to get some new people to join. Sooner or later people realize that you do not make money by selling the product, but by getting others to join. It was a Japanese based company that used pseudoscience to justify the claims for their magnetic therapy products. It was quite a bit like a revival meeting along with a "demonstration" that was rather transparent. At least to me. Needless to say I did not bit, but my landlady was happy enough that I went. It definitely had cultic overtones and I was glad to get out of that meeting.

Oh how I can relate. I remember very well being a 20 year old greenhorn looking for a job, and being interviewed by a multi-level marketing scam company. As soon as it became apparent that the idea was not to make money selling the product, but to get more people working under you... Again, I guess I'm just born with a very top notch internal alarm system for these sorts of things. I think it is interesting that you see the connection between religious cults and marketing scams -- in both cases, we are talking about abusive con jobs.

Jane is 84 years old. I'm a little dubious about how much help she will be around the house.

I had to look up Cheerwine. I had never heard of it before:

TLDR? Uniquely southern. Cherry flavored soda, very fizzy. No alcohol ever. Maybe it stains the white shirts and that is why Jane does not approve.
