Because he has done good in people hearts. Ask anyone who has found faith from him, everybody has their own story. I don't follow his preaching, but respect him very much.
As far as I am aware, everything is, at the most basic core that we can see, made of the same stuff: some combination of protons, neutrons, and electrons.

Probably the "awe" factor that people experience throughout life. The wonder and excitement that one experiences when looking at other people, the globe, the stars, and even investigating physics. There are some things that are not known, but felt. This to me is evidence enough, should you accept that feeling as such. Some people attribute it to chemicals in the brain, others to faith in God, others - to atoms and particles in the universe, but to me, it just shows the interconnectedness that binds us all. As much as the sciences explain, there is so much that is left in a state of, "We simply can't know." What we can't know, we feel, we use intuition, and these abilities, combined with foresight, hindsight, imagination, and wonder, all show me that there is something wonderful that binds us.

Life from non-life is abiogenesis. Evolution is change in genetic material over time (giving rise to the variety of life on Earth.) They are two distinct entities, and you should probably learn to separate them as such.
You seem to have no problem with micro-evolution since you singled out macro-evolution. What exactly stops mutations from occuring after a specific point? Does the DNA say "hold on there, buddy! You make one more change and we'll be a whole new species!" Of course it doesn't. The line between micro and macro-evolution is arbitrary.
Also, I suggest you read "The Language of God" by Francis Collins. He is a Christian and he is a geneticist. I do not agree with his theology, but he does present a pretty compelling argument as to why the believer should accept the scientific theory of evolution.
No, but as far as I know, no scientist has ever claimed to know what causes life to form.

It means that they have existed consistently and maintained beliefs similar to those of their historical ancestors in situations where other groups have not (on as consistent a basis) accomplished the same task.

As far of God's as an ontological ideal, I've never see one shred of evidence that suggests the existence of any God, or the legitimacy of it's teachings (not to say there aren't things I agree with in these books.)

Your question is defective because BOTH the existence and the non-existence of God are equally objectively unproveable!
That's why religions are called "faiths": because they're subjective endeavors.
