They will need the cooperation of the Republicans in the Senate for their actions to be more than symbolic.
Like I’m said this the first time he was impeached, we shouldn’t underestimate the value of symbols, particularly in politics.

But there is no one thing you can do that will protect you from future “Trumps”. It will always be a constant struggle.

Of course that's true. It's obvious, isn't it? But does that fact mean we must now set out a welcome sign in front of the Capitol Building for wannabe insurrectionists by letting people do it with impunity? "Hey, Joe. I haven't got my tax refund check yet. What say we get the gang together to storm the Capitol today and shut down Congress? The worst that will happen is we'll get a stern lecture from Susan Collins not to do it again, and a gift card for Amazon from Ted Cruz."

That is true. Except for one thing, even if there is no support Trump will have been the only U.S. President to have been impeached twice. And I think that a lot of Republican Senators can now see that Trump is toxic to the party. Impeachment and removal from office would solve that problem. There are at least several Republicans that clearly want him gone. Some of them have asked him to resign. Wait, change that, have told Trump that he needs to resign.

Again, do we have as a nation the political will for it?
I'm fairly sure that Pres-Elect Biden would NOT want Congress to proceed in that direction.

I'm afraid that I disagree with him on that. I sincerely think that the US must show the world that dangerous threats to your democracy will not be tolerated, and will not be responded to with a little time-out.

I doubt he could be convicted of inciting an insurrection from a criminal / legal standpoint.

But from a moral / political standpoint he has violated his oath to the Constitution and should be removed, if logistical and practical circumstances allow, and if a legal pathway (such as impeachment) exists to do that.

As @Revoltingest pointed out, impeachment is nothing like a criminal trial, and he can be impeached at nothing more than the will of Congress -- if the will exists.

A little time out is all we are most likely to achieve the political consensus to impose. But what could go wrong with that?

I can't think of a thing that could go wrong... except... well... maybe...

Consider the implications of the fact that so many of Trump's business endeavors are under-performing. Now factor in the fact that he is in an admirable position to make a go at turning as many of his followers as he can into paid subscribers to, say, a streaming TV channel, a podcast, or even some kind of email newsletter. Seventy-four million people voted for him. If he can figure out some way to get merely 20 million of them to pay him $4.99 month -- well under Netflix or Amazon Prime -- he's got about 1.2 billion in annual revenues.

Got all that?

Now think about how he would keep those people entertained and coming back for more month after month. Me, I'm guessing he'll try to do it by preaching to them about committing random acts of kindness, and showing true love and compassion for leftists. Certainly, he looks to me like a man who has always yearned to change his ways.

Trump has one hell of an incentive to become a perennial danger to the nation. Quiet retirement just does not seem likely.

In 12 days? Congress doesn't work that fast. Look at how long it took for them to come up with the stimulus bill, and even then it was only $600, not the $2000 that everyone wanted.

I'd point out that the reason Trump's Twitter account was removed is that we was already stirring up people to invade the Capitol and other state houses on Jan 17.

Not only did he incite insurrection, he is *continuing* to do so by every means possible.

Good question. I saw reports they were in a great mood and celebrating before the actual riot started but not during the riot itself.
I have read in multiple reports Trump refused call in the National Guard (Pence did) and he showed no concern or worry for what was going on. But why would he? Those terrorists are "special people" and he "loves them." And apparently while those hooligans were in the Chambers they were asking "where's Pence?" Amd we knew before hand Trump was seriously butthurt over Pence refusing to overturn the election.
