The problem there isn't the death penalty itself. No one said that the criminal justice system was perfect. The death penalty should be an option, though. Would you say that Ted Bundy shouldn't have been put to death, even after he escaped from jail and brutally attacked and killed some more women?

And that shows the problem with the incompetence of the justice system
& the irreversibility of the death penalty. I've served on a jury. I wouldn't
trust'm to tell me whether it's snowing outside or not.

It's people. They ain't reliable enough to risk the death penalty. The French prison system is ideal. You get bread and water etc, and work for better conditions. A bloke I knew did eight years in Longnesse, and then did another three because he could not pay the fine. No remission. No reprieve. In the last year he shared his cell with his son who had just earned the same sentence for the same crime.... same for him as well.

They were smugglers.

I'm against the capital punishment too as you are kind sir, but the problem is the level of sense of security. I heard of many cases that extremely dangerous murderers ran away from prison and committed more crimes. I, as a peaceful person and a scardy cat :sad4:, could live my life in fear knowing that there is a good possibility for that to happen. If I'm not a scardy cat, I'd fear for my loved one.

I think it is a good idea to have it as an option, as a very last resort.

I agree with Frank in having it as an option, but I disagree in calling it a wonderful thing.

We have a saying here that kinda translates to "a necessary evil" which implies that sometimes there could be some extreme measures that we really hate, but are an option that could help at some point.

Or so I think, and I completely respect your views.

Please don't get me wrong, I'm saying the above out of fear and seeking security for my loved ones and myself. I don't want anyone to be executed nor I'd have a personal hatred against them. I believe the main reason behind punishments is to have an extra defense line to enforce security.

Good post! :)

Thank you, kind Sir.

My post might have sounded harsh, but I'm just a simple human. Humans, as powerful as they look like, they are so weak that it could only take a fraction of a second to end their lives. I'm only want to survive and live peacefully, and want it to other good people too. I can't be lenient to murderers and first degree criminals on the account of the really good ones :(

I can sympathize with people who advocate using the death penalty as an extremely rare, last resort where the guilt of the victim is obvious (eg terrorist attack, shooting spree). However, for all other severe crimes I think being exiled to the jungles of Papua New Guinea would work just as well.

So in this case in Iran, I don't think the death penalty was appropriate given the dubious circumstances.
