Is Abortion Sin??

I know abortion is sin because the Holy Book says so.

BOOK OF ENOCH

When the fallen angels fell from grace, they took from the daughters of men
wives for themselves, and taught them all sorts of wickedness..

1En, 68- 17Kasyade: he discovered to the children of men every wicked stroke
of spirits and of demons: The stroke of the embryo in the womb, to diminish it;
the stroke of the spirit by the bite of the serpent, and the stroke which is given
in the mid-day by the offspring of the serpent, the name of which is Tabaet.

The stroke of the embryo in the womb, to diminish it.
The stroke of the embryo in the womb, to diminish it.

In plain english, Wicked!

And You?

Again, newcastle, I agree with you taht abortion is a sin (I think most Christian religions think so), but why do you keep quoting from the "holy book of Enoch"? No one subscribes to that book. Couldn't you find something better to use than that?

According to my beliefs it's a sin because it's equated with murder - taking an innocent life.

[the embryo has a fleshy outer covering called the 'mother.']

In todays society that outer covering has a choice, having said that,
does it make it right or wrong?

You missed the point entirely.

Better yet, you back it up with scriptures!

Would a God with foreknowledge imbue a soul into a group of cells knowing full well an abortion would prevent any life beyond the womb?

How so?please continue.

Here is where my definition of "sin" and "salvation" will differ from many others.

"Sin" is something that will plunge the individual into an eternal hell. "Salvation" will prevent this plunge. I can certainly think of situations where abortion is sinful; it's a traumatic act, and without adequate purpose, the guilt can be torturous.

But I can also imagine cases where abortion can save someone from guilt, such as in cases of incest and rape.

Would the same God give anyone a soul who would die?

Nice!

Good question, I'm thinking "free will"....

Religious principles aside, I consider abortion to be murder. As such it should be allowed only in the situations that murder is already allowed:

- Self-Defense: If it is believed that the child will cause irreparable physical harm to the mother.
- War: If the fetal nation declares intent to invade the United States and the mother has been enlisted into the military and ordered to kill it.

For all other situations in which the child is not desired I strongly support adoption.

I don't know about it being a sin, but there are moral implications.

For me, if a woman falls unexpectedly pregnant and doesn't want a baby, then I see absolutely nothing wrong with her having an early abortion.
The body naturally aborts fetuses, many perfectly healthy, below six weeks about 25% of the time. Many women will abort very early fetuses without even realising they are pregnant.
If it's so common for the body (or God if you're theistically inclined) to abort early fetuses for no apparent reason, what's wrong with a woman electively aborting early for her own reasons?

Past a certain point, when the fetus has developed a CNS and especially if it's capable of surviving outside the womb (post 20 weeks) then I would question the morality of aborting. In my opinion the woman has left it too late to change her mind.
