Is Allah God? Is that a silly question??

If you translate the word Allah which is Arabic, this question would be "Is God God?"!

If one is unaware, one can be corrected but if you insist....

I guess Muslims would say a simple "yes". But members of other religions might disagree. And scientific types might have yet another definition.

Muslims disagree too. Members of other religions disagree a lot, but some learned ones like Edward Lane, Montgomery Watt etc would agree, and even the scientific types will do the same since this just pain language, unless they are trying to deviate into another topic.

Strange that Malaysian court rules that non-Muslims cannot use 'Allah'. This adds to the confusion. Mostly egos which are getting upset though IMO.

1. Council of Ephesus acts records a church bishop named Abdallah meaning "servant of God". Thats in the 5th century. 200 years before Quran.
2. Christian poems way before Muhammed had their so called chorus that says "Ibadallah" or "Ibad Allah" which means the same as above in the plural. Servants of God. These are Christians before Muhammed written in the poems of Abd Yaguth.
3. Muhammed father was "Abdullah" meaning the same. Abd Allah.
4. Millions of Christians, and some Jews in the Middle Eastern heritage say the word "Allah".

Obviously they are not referring to the Muslim, Arabic God, its just their language.

Interestingly, not many Muslims want to accept that Allah was already being worshipped at the Ka'ba in Mecca by Arab pagans before Muhammad came.

I tried searching and all I found was sources saying Allah is a name — even the official site of the deviant group Ahmadiyya (which is from the Shia) says on their official page that Allah is a name. Intentionally ignoring your irrelevant statements that I am a Shia or whatever sectarian statements you wish to make, read Irfan Shahid's extensive research on Byzantium and Arabs in the 5th century. This is Pre Quran times and the research is extensive. Read Ibn Ishaq's Sirah where he quotes the man called Abdallah Ibn Abu Bakar who lived in the 6th century, 100 years before the prophet Muhammed who was wearing a ring that said Allahu Rabbi. Do you think he was saying that as a name of an arabic God when he was referring to YHWH the Christian God? Its simple, he was just speaking arabic. Do you consider these writers Irfan Shahid and Ibn Ishaq as scholars or just laymen studying off quick googling? Read. Christian fighters 200 years before the Quran was shouting Oh slaves of Allah in arabic? Do you know how many Christian priests were there prior to the prophet Muhammed in the 5th century and 6th century called AbdAllah?

Why I make "the same error?". I just said what I had read on the internet, about the Pagans worshipping Allah. As there is only 1 God (in my view), whatever name you use applies to God. I like the Hindu view on God, as my Master explained. It's very simple. There is only 1 God, though many people call Him by different Names. Some believe that Hindus have many Gods, I believe they have many Names. In the End form and Name are part of Maya/illusion, hence in the Advaita they say that only God is real, and only God exists. All else is constantly changing, hence unreal(not truth)
