Is atheism the teenage revolt years?

I like Nietzsche's four stages better, from Zarathustra:

The Spirit (the original child)= the innocence of the creative human, unburdened by "oughts" but responsive to desires/aversions. Trying to order its reality and find meaning.

The Camel = the social creature burdened with apparent obligations - here you find the "believers" - followers of religions and those whose identity is unself-consciously wrapped up in nationality, ethnicity or ideology.

The Lion = the destroyer, challenging the values and presumptions upon which the preservation of social relationships depend - here is where your vision of what constitutes "atheists" is operating. Though many atheists are as plugged in as believers in "science" and nationalism as any religious zealot.
Here there's nihilism. The Dark Night of the Soul.

Return to the Child - mysticism, self-actualization, re-discovery of the power of childhood creativity but with self-awareness. Creators of values - great artists, scientists (though not technicians), philosophers.

An Atheist will oppose god, believe that there knowledge is better than gods, want to get away from god create there own life. Much like a teenager trying to be their own adult.

Not really. How can I oppose something I do not believe is real? Atheism isn't opposition to a god it is a lack of belief in a god. There is no desire to rebel or get away from a god that one thinks is not there. Also, I do not see any actual correlation between age and belief or lack there of. Most kids and teen agers I meet are adamant about a belief in a god or something really great out there. They just often feel that it has to be their way or no other way, in other words, their god would never allow a bunny to die.

I still don't know what that means regarding my joke to R.

Oh, I thought it was not a joke. Words should be more graphic. That`s why sometimes I download videos to send across the firing line my points of view so they could be better understood.

Wow. You don't understand atheists at all, do you?

You certainly don't understand this atheist.

What is funny to me is that you say I'm completely lost yet you keep engaging me. You can't just walk away. Just like the teenager you have to have the last word. Well I want to have one of the longest threads so as long as you willing to engage a lunatic I'm willing to reply.

The adult knows what fights need not be fought. Even the child will stop when the fight can't be won. Only the teenager has the will and strenght to keep going forever. As I said I want to be the teenager so I keep at this.

Prove me wrong walk away.

And you don't? Exactly what do you think you're doing now?

When I engage in discussion with someone online who's bound and determined to make an *** of himself, it's usually not to change that person's mind; it's to show the poor quality of the person's argument to the rest of the people reading the thread.

But you are right in one respect: me participating here is probably pointless, because you did a damned good job of showing us just how poor your argument was all on your own.

I was thinking about god and punishment. To my sons I am very much like God. I hand out punishments and tell them no when they want to hear yes. I also make them do things they don't want to do.

This is all for there betterment, so that they can be productive as adults. Currently they are adolescents.

When they become teenager's they are going to revolt. They will believe they know better than me(they will know somethings better I'm not god). They will want to leave my house. They will want to live there own way.

Then when they become adult's they will realize some truths. There will be a balancing of our lives. Although father and son we will be more compromising.

Now all people don't go through all stages. What I am equating this to is our religious beliefs.

Theist - Child State
Atheist - Teenage State
Agnostic - Adult State

It has always been my opinion that trying to compare a persons relationship with god to a persons relationship to their parents has got to be one of the all time biggest fails in all the history of mankind.

This thread has done nothing more that thoroughly confirm my opinion.

I'd add that it's boring....at least from my perspective:
Baby - atheist
Child - atheist
Pre-teen - atheist
Teen - atheist
Adult - atheist
Middle age - atheist
Curmudgeon - atheist
Worm food - no opinion

It was a thought and I think by everyone responce I am happy with the results. I don't expect everyone to understand.

Its a behaviour thing towards parents from the parents view. How does a child behave with his parents, How does a teenager and How does an adult with his own kids behave toward there parents.

Looking from the outside in the people I know that are atheist, theists and agnostic. The way they deal with God behaviourly matches very well with these discriptions.

A child respects his parents, trys to listen to his parents, is sad when he makes his parents unhappy. Isn't this what theist does with god.

A teenager challenges his parents, believes he/she have the necessary knowledge, beleives he/she knows all that is needed.
The atheist challenges those that believe in God, The atheist knows that the answers are all in the world, The atheist knows that we have all we need.

The young parent is concerned about his life, has a new respect for his parents, realizes that all his parents say may not be right for him.
The agnostic has decided that there is no proof for god, respects both theistic views and atheistic views but does agree that either is right for him.

Behavior's may not be the right description but I could match even more things to each. If you were honest I think you could too.
The issues is everyone thinks its a ranking, but this is not true. I am not saying any is better or any is right. I am just saying it is how they are.
For my part I would want to be the teenager first and foremost, child second and parent last, but I put myself in the parent group.

Resprect has to be earned and not simply adhered to, if my parents beat me, should I also respect them?

Agnosticism isn't a happy middle ground, as a lot of people like to think it is. The fact of the matter is that while you may not like it, agnostics are atheists, they both don't believe a god exists. While you may object to it, thats the fact of the matter. However, agnosticism and atheism are not mutually exclusive. You can be both.

Why should theistic views be respected? I respect their right to hold those views, but I do not respect the views themselves.

There is a stage just before the worm food stage when one may not be able to relish bacon. :eat:

What do you think

I think agnostic is an adjective, not a noun.

You can be an "agnostic theist"
You can even be an "agnostic atheist"

I don`t know of anyone who is simply.. "agnostic"

So no.

Don't you believe you've shown all you can or do you need the last word. Can't you walk away knowing you proved your point. If you walk away no more comments, no frubals, no IM's I'll admit that I could be wrong. Give me the last word and I'll admit I could be wrong.

I've said what I've had to say my only reply's have been to you. If I'm wrong end this.
