Is God a Woman?

Tiapan

Definately a woman. History says if you want the best shot at the truth use primary rather than secondary or tertiary evidence. Since Christian Judaism and Islam are all basically modern religions their texts cannot be trusted. We must go much further back. One god is prominent this consistent figure arises with regularity, across the planet. Ghia the Mother god, fat well fed belly or pregnant with very prominent mammaries. It massively predates the modern paternalistic mythologies model we have recently adopted, by some 20,000 years.

If this god business is not complete nonsense then I would suggest yes God is in fact a woman

But then again if the old boy/girl is omni- this and omni- that then perhaps he/she was a hermaphrodite.

Cheers

I have heard of this view, but I have never really understood it. Is there anyone that believes that God is a woman that can explain the rationale behind this belief?

That's hilarious that you can't understand it. Obviously God is not a woman, as God, if any, is not human, but do you see God as male?

So you think God is male?
Any other Christians care to comment?

The Bible also refers to God in the plural. How many people are you?

Also, how does "humans were created in his image" imply that God is male? Speaking from personal experience, I know quite a few humans who are female.

If this rationale implies that God is male, wouldn't it also imply that humanity is female?

It eludes to the capacity for reproduction and mating, not necessarily actual reproduction and mating.

And an omnipotent god would have the capacity for anything. IMO, reproduction falls under the umbrella of "everything". This implies to me that any omnipotent god would be both male and female, since such a god would be able to meet any criteria that anyone could think up for either gender.

I believe god is female, or rather that female is a better fitting concept than male or neuter.

I believed that at one point in my pre-Atheist development. I would have said that we cannot really understand God, the best we can do is a metaphor, and viewing God as female was a more accurate metaphor.

Nice to know I'm not alone in thinking that, even if you've changed your worldview since then.

It seemed to me that the natural world, the planet, the universe, whatever, is more like a living thing than a manufactured thing, and a God that gives birth to stuff is a better way to understand creation than a God who manufactures stuff.

Gradually this moved into pantheism, my own approach, the idea that the world is God's body. I'm still more or less content with this; it's really atheism + an attitude of reverence.

I like it.

My own way of thinking is sort of similar to the cosmic egg myth, except that the gods tended to distance themselves from the egg once it was laid, which is why I imagine the egg still within god, that she's pregnant with it. Not literally of course, just how I imagine the nature of the relationship, distinct yet intimate.

This is a long thread, & somebody may have all ready covered this, but God is not, in fact, always portrayed as male in the Hebrew scriptures. El Shadai, one of the names for God in the O.T. can mean "the One with breasts." Proverbs & the Book of Wisdom talk of Sophia, the Living Wisdom of God who is female. Rua (the spirit or breath of God) is a feminine noun. Jesus, if he was God's Son, compares himself to a mother hen.

I agree with Dr. Matthew Fox who stated that God is both masculine & feminine, but right now in humanity's history we need the feminine aspects more.

Well, I believe that the One is genderless.... but I believe also in Goddesses and Gods... many of which are not "Gods" in the sense that you'll think of, but are abstract ideas of the mind.

Even knowing what I believe, I believe I understand the rationalle behind this belief. However, you'll have to clarify for me - are you meaning the "Christian God" as female? What exactly do you mean by "God". I can help answer your question if you let me know.

How about Lucifer. Some claims that Lucifer was female?

This what Ysrael Hawkins believe and the Sacred Name movement.
They are convinced that Lucifer has many characteristics usually considered feminine
and is usually depicted consistently in the scriptures as manipulative, sensual, and alluring" .
