Is Hell just?

If I do bad things and go to hell, I will be tortured for all eternity, for a finite action. that's like a life-sentance for somone eternal. in comparison to infinite punishment, my action was zero.

For you Super Universe. I apologize for my seemingly harsh comments on my other post below, so I decided to start a thread discussing the concept of Hell and if it is truly just.

So...is Hell just? Would a loving God allow His children to be cast into Hell? If so, what is the purpose?

Brandon

There is no literal place of fire and torment. This is a misconception on the part of those who don not yet have an accurate knowledge of the truth. There is eternal damnation awaiting those who do not follow God's commandments. It is in the form of no everlasting life.Total destruction. It does not mean that God will torture you in a fire forever. To do so would mean that He would haver to grant you eternal life to do this.Everlasting life is a gift.It makes no sense for God who is love to grant you everlasting life for the purpose of roasting you forever in a pit of fire. This is cruel and evil.

Here are some scriptures to give us a better understand ing on how God feels about such things.

Jeremiah 7:31 They have built the high places of Topheth in the Valley of Ben Hinnom to burn their sons and daughters in the fire--something I did not command, nor did it enter my mind.

Jeremiah 19:5 They have built the high places of Baal to burn their children in the fire as offerings to Baal--something I did not command or mention, nor did it enter my mind.

So we can clearly see from these two passages that God does not condone such behavior. He even says it is something that never entered His mind.

That only burns off the flesh... but is not as we think of flesh anyway.

The holy scriptures tell us that Satan the Devil is reserved for the eternal lake of fire. What people refer to as hell.People need to understand that Satan the Devil is a spirit.Physical fire cannot harm spirit creatures. What people think of hell is no more than a symbolic place. It represents total destruction.People do not go to a place of everlasting fire and torment. They are destroyed forever once.No everlasting life.Total separation from their God and creator. It is not roasting in a pit of fire forever. This is man made beliefs that have no real biblical backing.Misconceptions of men.

Jews don't believe in Hell. The closest concept we have to it is an idea some (but not all, or even many) Jews embrace, a purgatory called Gehinnom. But even for those of us who believe in Gehinnom (which I am not among) no one is in Gehinnom permanently, or even for very long.

Personally, I don't believe in Gehinnom for the same reason I wouldn't believe in Hell. The idea of a place of merciless, horrific, and torturous punishment is more or less irreconcilable with the idea of a loving, forgiving God. The idea of such damnation being eternal-- no matter what sin was being punished-- is absolutely, entirely, and without reservation irreconcilable with a loving and forgiving God. It is a repulsive doctrine, and only likely to engender merciless and cruel behavior in people, if they think God can get away with behaving like that.

More than that, it is unjust. Eternity is forever. Longer than millions, or even billions, of years. No sin could possibly justify eternal damnation to torture. Not even genocide. Certainly not theological errors, or sexual immoralities, or petty thievery, or any of the legions of "sins" Christians have claimed get one sent to Hell.

I asked, though, is it just. Of course God is loving, but He must also be just. That is the question at hand. If God is loving, but not just, He is not God. If God is just but not loving, He is equally as ill-balanced. If Hell is just, then it is within God's nature. If it is not, we know that Hell is not a possibility.

Brandon
Hell is not just, because it represents an infinite punishment for a finite crime. God is love. God's justice is to show unconditional love for God's children, forgiving sin. That's really the only way the estrangement cycle is broken. Hell represents eternal estrangement, and that's gross injustice in a universe rooted in love.

Just the thought of hell has tormented Christians for centuries. It doesn't have to be real to feel tormented. But it is just that sinners be tormented by hell.
Yes,many have been tormented with the very thought of it for many centuries due to lack of studying and misinformation.Misconceptions.Those who want to control the masses used it as a strategy.

It is not just..............

We're all sinners, so the bible says. So, if we're all sinners, and the bible says that all sinners go to hell, and the bible says that sinners are redeemed and are, thus, saved, where's the cohesive message in all this? This is the kind of bull**** that happens when texts are taken at face value only and are read very literalistically.
