Is it true that the world will end in the year of 2012?

There's all this commotion about the end of the world approaching, supposedly in the year 2012 because that is when the Mayan calendar ends. I am trying to create a blog about the apocalyptic year 2012, and your comments, and your view would help me a lot to compile a great research. Please take a side on this debate whether you believe the world will end in that year or not, and briefly explain your point of view. Thank you

Nope.
Even though I think everything is set, I do not think we are capable of calculating the end. Not even ancient mayans..
Besides, all it will end is the calendar, we made up the rest.

Yes, the world will end on December 21, 2012, on exactly 10 AM (GMT), preferably after breakfast.

I will not be a smart arse since the OP was being nice and sincere.

I really don't think 2012 is the end. The Mayan calendar had to end some time. I'm aware that there are other historical societies that have eluded to 2012 as being a unique time but there have been so many end time predictions that have failed, I see no reason to bet the farm on this, albeit, thought provoking date.

Mankind has reached the point of no return. So i really believe that the 'end' of the human race as we know it is fast approaching.

Imagine the works of each man as continually filling up his cup. That cup when it is full is poured out on man. Nobody does not get what they deserve.

I believe that god has in fact kept mankind from destroying themselves up to this point. All he really has to do, is make them drink the cup of their iniquity. When that happens, the wrath of god will be poured out on mankind.

So they will drink what they have put into that cup. And so they will in effect destroy themselves. And that is why jesus had to come and save us. Because unless there is a saviour the fate of all mankind is the same. Destruction.

When jesus came to this earth, i believe that the earth had already, by then filled their cups up to the brim. But god forgave mankind their inquity and gave them a new start. But since jesus can not and will not be put on the cross again, all that is left for mankind without god is an awefull destiny.

The bible says that jesus did not come to condemn the world but to save it. And he did. He saved mankind from gods wrath. But the next time we see the son of god it will be a different story. God's wrath will be poured out on mankind. And there is no 'saviour' in the pipeline again. Only false christs which make elaborate promises of peace and goodwill to all mankind.

God will not let his son be mocked. Neither will he be mocked. Whatever we sow we must ultimately reap.

The only way to keep your cup from overflowing with iniquity is to be forgiven and to repent. Without repentance the cup remains full. Without a change in heart, the cup will continue to fill up with iniquity. God can only save those that belong to his son. He is faithfull to his son and therefore faithfull to those who is 'in' the son, and the son is in them.

It is gods kindness that leads us to repentance. He has waited very long for mankind to change their ways. To turn to him that he may heal them and their land. That is kindness. He does not wish for anybody to perish, but god works in seasons like the seasons of the earth. There is a time for everything under the sun, and the time for gods judgement and wrath has come.

If the righteous makes it by the skin of their teeth....what hope do those have who have mocked, rejected and trampled on the son of god?

I believe that by 2012 this world will be in utter mayhem. I have no doubt in my mind that the son of god is on his way back.

It seems to me, that everywhere I look the state of mankind is like the following scriputure indicates:

2 Tim 3: 2

People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, 3without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, 4treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God

Things have turned for the worst I'm afraid. I just hope humanity can change direction soon. :help:

Probably no. :)You know what, there's a cult here in the Philippines which predicted that the world will end at the year 2000. So, from the year 1999, they build a house or a community in a cave where they lived for many months or 1 year I think 'coz they believe that they will be safe there from the "balls of fire". And year 2000 passed and still, the life on earth is still going on. Actualy, I've also red an article on the internet about the predictions of the Mayan Civilization of how the earth will end. According to it, a meteor or comet will strike the earth and boom,we're gone. Well, I guess, I'll have to say goodluck to all of us for the armagedon on 2012. hehe, till then...:)

The Mayan calendar does not end in 2012. Also, considering how much of the Mayan culture was unfortunately destroyed by the conquistadors we really have no concrete concept of the Mayan calendrical system and its meanings.

It's that simple. Even the so called prophecies do not call for an end to the world or barely, among Mayans, an end to the world as we know it. There are no momentous shifts corresponding to the start of new long counts in the Mayan calendar or major changes every baktun. What is so significant about August 11, 3114 B.C. has yet to be discovered. We have no records stating anything resembling ancestors to the Mayan existing at that time. It's probably the calendar of the Mayans exists the way it does now by their astrologers making it fit to meet a more immediate date between 300 and 900 A.D.

We're gonna party like its 13.13.13.13.13.13. I wonder how many people will have a serious doomsday hangover on 14.1.0.0.0.0?

Apart from the mayan people there are many other civilizations who also believe/d that 2012 will be a significant year for the history of mankind.

Hopi Predict a 25yr period of purification followed by End of Fourth World and beginning of the Fifth.

Mayans Call it the 'end days' or the end of time as we know it.

Maoris Say that as the veils dissolve there will be a merging of the physical & spiritual worlds.

Zulu Believe that the whole world will be turned upside down.

Hindus Kali Yuga (end time of man). The Coming of Kalki & critical mass of Enlightened Ones.

Incas Call it the 'Age of Meeting Ourselves Again'.

Aztec Call this the Time of the Sixth Sun. A time of transformation. Creation of new race.

Dogon Say that the spaceship of the visitors, the Nommo, will return in the form of a blue star.

Pueblo Acknowledge it'll be the emergence into the Fifth World

Cherokee Their ancient calendar ends exactly at 2012 as does the
Mayan calendar.

Tibetan Kalachakra teachings are prophesies left by Buddha predicting Coming of the Golden Age.

Egypt According to the Great Pyramid (stone calendar), present time cycle ends in year 2012 AD

And as far as partying while 'doom' is around the corner...the bible predicts exactly that kind of thing to happen:

luke 17:26"Just as it was in the days of Noah, so also will it be in the days of the Son of Man. 27People were eating, drinking, marrying and being given in marriage up to the day Noah entered the ark. Then the flood came and destroyed them all.
28"It was the same in the days of Lot. People were eating and drinking, buying and selling, planting and building. 29But the day Lot left Sodom, fire and sulfur rained down from heaven and destroyed them all.

I'll go one better: there will always be a way to read current events into "end of the world prophecies" and when 2012 comes and goes, these same people will find another year to predict the end of the world . . . and if you check out the history of Christianity, it's been the end of days non-stop for nearly two millennia.

And I prophecy that it will still be the end of days on 1/1/2013.

The Dogon tribe and the spaceship?

Since when did the Dogon ever make any claims about a spaceship. After that archaeologist hoaxed the world about the Dogon recognizing a binary star system and claiming alien visitation?

What's the source of all these groups claiming 2012 as a prophetic date?

A reliable source as well. Definitely not crystallinks or some similar site.

I've heard plenty of pessimism about the 2012 Olympics being held in London, but I hope things do not go that badly :D

On a more serious note, I don't think there is any way of knowing an exact point in time when the world will end. All that was really left as far as Christianity was concerned were general signs that act as indications to our proximity to the end.

BTW, does this mean that the Mayans and Cherokee were prophets of "God" and now Christendom has the Blood of the Prophets(TM) on its hands?

Also doesn't this mean we should all convert to the worship of Ah Xoc Kin, since his prophets were waaaaay more impressive in getting the date right than Jesus? In fact, if right, it sort of makes a liar of Jesus, who said no one would know the appointed hour. . . d'oh! If I were emotionally wrapped up in mainstream Christianity, wouldn't I be better off pulling for a happy 2013?
