Is it true Trump supporters just want a father figure?

I'm voting republican to try and stop the nonsense.
Just to be clear: the Republican Party platform, currently, is essentially to just do whatever Donald Trump wants. Seriously - go read it for yourself. I believe 2020 is the first time since Lincoln that the party did not actually pass a platform. And this official platform is in line with how the party has submitted to his bullying over the last four years.

Look at the Republican Party convention. Trump spoke at length each day. And his wife. And his daughter. And his other daughter. And his son. And his other son. And his son's girlfriend. His daughter in law. His personal lawyer. All in front of the White House. (So much for "draining the swamp", huh?) Even Fox News acknowledged this was not the GOP convention ... this was "the Trump convention".

So when you say you are voting Republican ... you are really voting for the Trump Party.

That is no way to "stop the nonsense".

I am going to admit that you have a good point here. We all tend to care more about those who are close to us than we do about those more distant. First ourselves, then our family, our friends, our community, our nation-state etc. In a series of ever expanding circles. This is the weakness of the human condition that we care less for someone suffering on the other side of then world than we should.

I believe it is the sign and goal of enlightenment to continue to expand this circle of compassion.
I think it's a great point, too. I would just encourage people like Cooky to pick an actual adult who can implement it.

Let's apply this concept to Donald Trump: why should he be expected to fulfill his duties on behalf of a nation of 360 million, when he can't even safely or responsibly manage the 377 staff immediately around him at the White House?

We have seen clear evidence that Trump’s circle of compassion is just big enough for himself and no one else.

In my opinion, the overarching point of these policies is not to produce a sensible and workable system for immigration, but to produce an atmosphere of paranoid xenophobia, so that fearful people keep electing those who promise to deliver them from the Mexican Muslims.

Not bad, for a radical felinist such as yourself.

Yes. I would have married him even if he had been a baker or a plumber. (Which are decent useful jobs, btw)
But I do respect those who find him bad. They surely have their just reasons.:)

I'm just worried about the preservation of democracy and the most effective leader for getting us through this virus.

Melanja's family was brought up with socialist values, now persisting in 21st century Slovenia.
I was hoping she enlightened him and guided him towards certain subjects.
I hoped. In vain.

I'm not so sure about that, even if she grew up in a socialist country. From what I've observed, some of the most rabidly zealous anti-socialists are those whose families emigrated from socialist countries. I find this to be especially true among Cuban-Americans and Vietnamese-Americans, although I've also encountered quite a few from Eastern Europe, the former SU, and China.

As far as I know, Viktor Knavs was a member of the Communist Party in Slovenia. Btw she went to the USA for work; she began modeling in Milan, so she already had a career.:)

I also deeply and respectfully understand the American cultural background, where males have been succesfully educated to reject sexism and patriarchy.

In fact I am so saddened by the fact that my country is still hostage of the myth of the "strong, heterosexual, fatherly man". And that is why Trump is so loved in Italy.
But also because he married a beautiful woman. Which makes him even more virile in the Italians' eyes.

Do I condemn it? Yes. Sure. But extremes are never good. A middle way is the right attitude.
