Yes there’s a world of difference.
So why the "if-then" as if they
were the same?

As far as God is concerned not at all.
So why did you..,, or no, never mind. It made
no sense anyway.
Actually it is mythology, not only is there no evidence for the Israelites being in Egypt but, "In contrast to the absence of evidence for the Egyptian captivity and wilderness wanderings, there are ample signs of Israel's evolution within Canaan from native Canaanite roots."1,2,3It is neither. One can accept the Jewish texts as dubious historical documents (or as valid historical documents) that are simply not yet confirmed by other historical documets. Remember that the absence of proof doesn't not automatically exclude.
For ages, scholars simply assumed that the Iliad was complete and total myth. Then the city of Troy was found. Now they have to try and parse legend from history.

Have you ever tried chicken laksa? My wife made some this morning ...so delicious. Coconut juice, chilli, coriander, chicken, and other secret ingredients that make it addictive.
That’s what I like about you, you are so er.. well.... . you know... decisive.
Friendly offer but I am vegetarian.
I got it wrong again!
