Is man the only intelligent life form in the universe?

any more than it absurd to believe there is a G-d?

Why believe in known mythology?

Why compare mythology to almost complete ignorance? We have not investigated the universe, we know nothing of it as a whole.

there is intelligent life in the universe

There should be.

Can you say that we can tell what is in the ocean by filling a glass of water, and then proclaiming there is no life in it?

Your argument has been reduced to the inane.

The idea of aliens has long appealed to atheists because of it's implication that humanity is not 'special'

Not true.

It appeals to all, theist and atheist because it is a good question. Your question only shows your bias.

We have an ear on an entire galaxy and hear nothing but deafening silence.

False. You know what? that statement is so untrue why don't you start providing credible sources before you even post.

We do not have an ear to the entire galaxy.

To give you a REAL analogy to the size of our search. Go to a beach in Florida, pick up a handfulof sand, investigate it, then look at the rest of the beach and each grain is a planet and or star we have no knowledge of.

Our radio waves have only moved one step out of the door of a house in California, on a journey to NY city.

We know nothing of our galaxy in total..

As it turns out - after some time away I read a few posts. One of our methods of searching for intelligent life is looking for an intelligent use of energy. From earth we broadcast a very identifiable signature of our intelligence and or intellectual development in broadcasting very identifiable electrical magnetic radiation. With the assumption of relative newness that from our region of space in this galaxy we can conclude that there is no intelligent life that is similar to our foot print for comparable evolution withing reach before our sun will destroy earth. We are alone and it is unlikely that any other life will discover us before our existence ends.
