In my opinion, masturbation is only wrong if someone is getting harmed, or if the individual develops an addiction which interferes with their life. It is a perfectly natural thing to do frequently, but in moderation, and it has been linked to a reduce in prostate cancer in men. It can release stress, and obviously, it feels nice.

There is difference between lusting for your brother and dog than actually engaging in it. Im sure that was sarcastically implied. Look there are bizarre people who fantasize about bizarre things. It doesn't have to make sense to you or I but to the one engaging in those fantasies. There are men who fantasize (through porn) about ejaculating on a woman's face. To others that is a bizarre act, but to mainstream society that is of the norm if you watch those films. Same thing with mother daughter or mother/father son fetishes, it may be bizarre to you but to others its a fantasy.

I am sure 99.99999999999999% his therapist didn't tell him to self-castrate. That is a middle age act where the presumption of self-castration is supposed to counter lustful thoughts. In fact no medical professional would condone it except in cases of cancer but yeah that is unfortunate.
