Nuclear weapons were invented by a huge group of people, many with idealistic motives, and many out of fear the Nazis would get them first. Not to mention other, perhaps lesser, motives.

I understand that Nazi and Allies was in war because of racism and soul of occupation runing in both of them .

how about NOW , why Russia and USA and many others countries holding and develope these weapons ?

which mean if a war start , so thats mean it's THE END !

You can't win a thermonuclear war. The very existence of those weapons is madness.

If Japan got it first you can be sure they would have used it. Both Japan and Germany were trying to develop an atomic bomb. The USA just beat them to it. And Hitler would certainly have used it.

To give Obama credit, he's done more than any other president to secure loose nuclear materials that could be used to build a dirty bomb or even a functional nuclear weapon. But I don't think his efforts will stop us from having a nuclear war someday. I think that is just a matter of time.

I agree that it is most likely a matter of time. I say likely because I hope we are both wrong. I am curious as to your opinion as the most likely scenario that will lead to this?

I hope we're both wrong too. As for likely scenarios, I think there maybe many. One that concerns me more than most is the prospect of a war between India and Pakistan drawing in China and the US. But I'm not an expert in these matters. I largely base my pessimism on the historical fact that we humans have seldom for very long refused to use a weapon that was in our arsenals. Although the weapons haven't been used since the Second World War, seventy or eighty years respite in historical terms is not all that long. And while rational people would never use such weapons, rational people are not always the people in power.

One aspect which has not yet come up in this thread is all the missing plutonium, and the potential for 'dirty bombs'.
Currently, the US can't track some tons of material which it shipped overseas.
A garden bucket of weapons grade plutonium could make a bomb which could destroy a city of 100,000 people.
Japan has 'lost' 70 kg of weapons grade plutonium.
And it does not require high tech to make what is called a 'dirty bomb'. That is just a bomb like any other, even a chicken**** and diesel bomb would do, which contains radioactive material which is dispersed in the explosion.
So all the apparent 'controls' are in fact a fiction. Your government does not want you to know this.
The next 911 could take out the population of New York.
