Is prayer meaningless?

The debate shouldn't be whether prayer does anything or not but should people be allowed to use their beliefs in prayer to affect public opinion. Maybe even more so the question is if 60% of the world is the same religion and the other 40% is a mixture is it better to go with the majority or be neutral throughout. Obviously our country is not 100% religiously neutral which might as well be completely polarized.

Violet.
in most mainstream religions,it is often asserted that god knows the inner workings of your mind and "heart".so is prayer needed to convey your ideas and feelings?this seems to be a pointless activity.

If you believe in a benevolent god, better maybe to just say thank you?
'Thank you' is a much stronger -- more powerful-- act/word of faith than 'Please'.

But then my own gOd concept does not really fit the "please/thank you" model so well.;)
Prayer for me is something quite different.
More of a very deep and active inner meditation... that changes & energizes me...
and my world.
