Is the God of the OT and the NT the same God?

Yes, they are the same. Both Jews and Christians worship the Father. I'm not aware of there being debate over that. It's the Son people like to debate about.

Is there a third option? Can I say, as an ex-Christian, they are totally, absolutely, 100%, downright, no-arguments, without a doubt, completely antithetical to each other?
I am 100% positive that a Jew who converted to Christianity would say the exact opposite. Then we're back at square one.

For what purpose? Christians are in the majority so you already know that you'd have more votes.
Who cares? To satisfy my curiosity, okay. It's not a presidential election or something. So what if Christians "win"? Besides, I know a lot of Christians who believe that the God of the Old Testament is "the Father," and that they God of the New Testament is "the Son."

I'm trying to read the Bible and as I was reading, this question popped into my head. Is the God of the Old Testament and the New Testament the same God? Or are they different? :(

Edit: And could you please state how?
I believe they are the same except the NT is in error. Jesus was the OT Lord, not the son of God.

@Tumah I'm pretty sure El, G-d, and the Christian God are the same guy. I find it more curious that they kicked Asherah and the kids (the Elohim) out to the street, and Jehovah ordered her shrines destroyed. Anyway, the only one's that came up with anything were the Canaanites, everyone else ripped them off. :D I guess the Jews in the past decided ten Gods were too many, er something and had their split -- decided they were an "El" cult, and got fancy. Christians decided one God was too damn simple, so let's make three that are one. :D

@wizanda - Jesus' story was definitely borrowed from other contemporary legends of the time, from the Egyptian stories of Horus to the Roman Mithras. It was then obviously cudgeled repeatedly until it fit the narrative of the OT. Personally, I don't think the two started as the same thing and Christianity was "just another pagan religion", looking for more converts. To an extent, I agree with @Tumah in that they weren't the same God... But, in modern parlance they are understood to be, so they are now. :D What our ancestors understood is completely irrelevant in terms of the contemporary notions, at least as they are applied, and certainly that's what is important. The fingerprints of prior religions are all over Christianity as well, and I agree that the Egyptian/Greek influences certainly are what Christianity adds to the pie.

You have to realize that the so called bible was written by many people, there was no god involved, that is evidence of what we have, no loving god could ever write such disgusting crap and put that on us, it would need an evil and disgusting god to do so, thank you.

What is the retirement age for a god and how many apprentices are lined up to take over.

I wonder if god can tell any of these apprentices “You’re fired” if they don’t come up to scratch.

There is One God who has attributes of being All-Powerful, Omnipotence, and the Creator. However you argue it, from what we can determine about God based on understandings of OT and NT they are much more similar than different. The real issue between Jews and Christians appears to be whether or not Jesus was who He claimed to be. Jews say "Non", Christians say "Yes". What's new?

No
Christians believe Jesus is God, they believe in Trinity.
Jews believes only in One God, no trinity, and not that Jesus is god.

So conclusion: They dont worship the same god.
