Is the world really any more evil?

Everything in this world is getting worse, including the weather. Something as simple as bad weather, which we have always had, is getting worse. As human population increases, so does diamectrically our problems, thats a sure way to calculate this. I don't see why many cannot see this. Its academic, its getting worse, there is no numerical way to dismiss it.

Peace.
In the past, there have been mass extinctions killing 90+% of life. There have been milder things like thousand-year ice ages, too.

"Getting worse" needs to be evaluated in context.

Well I understand context, but I understand the math. Human population is growing, contextually and proportionally so does crime, famine, war, pestilence, and so on at a mathematical proportion. The math speaks for itself. Its academic. The more people you have, the more problems you have, and its the problems that makes things worse.

Now if I wanted to live in a dream world, I could ignore the math, as many seemingly are doing on this post. I could focus on those things getting better, and there are many of them. But you can't escape the math.

Peace.

Well, I think if someone is going to say the world is getting worse, it should be in proportion to the human population. I mean, several hundred years ago, a third of the population of Europe was wiped out by the Bubonic plague.

Sure, the number of crimes may have increased due to the fact that there are exponentially more people, but I think in terms of society, understanding, health, and freedom, the world as a whole is far better than it's ever been, even if in some places its still just as bad as it's always been.

When all is said and done, I'd rather live now than in any other time. I'd be dead if I was born during most other periods.

What about crime such as the Crusades or the Arabic slave trade in Africa? They are hideous crimes that were igniored because of the time. The only reason crime has increased is because the severity of punishment has decreased and the severity of the law has increased.

Your right on this in most cases. Prison is hardly a bad life compared to 3rd world survival. Places like Japan though have zero tolerence on murder though and it shows dramatic improvement on the subject.
Murders cleared: Japan 96.6%; US 62.6%.
Rapes cleared(the US stat is for "forcible" rapes): Japan 69.5%; US 41.8%.
Larceny cleared: Japan 24.9%; US 18.3% (although the US rate is for "larceny thefts" while the Japanese rate is not so broken down)
Robbery cleared; Japan 54.6%, US 26.2%
Arson cleared; Japan's was 71.5% , US 17.1%.
Using those five categories where general comparisons can be made, and averaging the numbers, we come up with a Japanese clearance rate of 63.53%; the US clearance rate was 33.2%, a little over half of the Japanese average.
More stats for Japan's clearance rate of crimes:
Violent offenses: 59.7%
Felony offenses: 65.3%
White-collar offenses: 39.1%
"Moral" offenses: 53.1%
Stats are 2004 (US) and 2005 (Japan)

There is no question that this country is in moral decline. Considering that the rest of the world hadn't caught up to us morally and now we export immorality through movies the world is in decline also.

On the other hand the worst dictators now appear to be off the scene and communism is on the decline which makes for a more peaceful world.

In New Orleans and Haiti God may well have been attacking an evil that He hates in voodooism. The world would be less evil without it.

Are you serious. I've lived in New Orleans all my life and I've never met one God **** person that does Voodoo.

The weather is...evil?

Personally I love the rain =] I even like small hurricanes if they don't hurt anyone or flood homes.

Good point, but I also thinks it brings more good to the world as well.

I honestly think that the reason our world seems so bad is simply because the media. It simply highlights everthing - even the most unimportant details of our lives. ESPECIALLY bad things that happen - those are in the media the most. There have always been evil people and evil things in the world, but what most people consider immoral has changed over time. I don't see today's world as any worse than earlier times, though.
What do you all think?

I agree. Things aren't any more or less "evil" than they have been throughout history. It's simply that we're more aware of everything now thanks to the media.

I agree, that if the bible comments about times coming, where every city all around the world at the same time will rise in chaos, (every iniquity on the rise) when that hits its peak its likely, the difference will be noticeable. its part of the checklist, before the coming of Jesus.
